I'm thinking this is a cut down rifle.  All I can find is a Model 41 targetmaster that was made in 1936-1939 and it was a rifle.

That is a tragic thing to do to a TargetMaster.  

My father and grandfather both own Model 41s, with the full length (26-28") barrel.

It's what I learned to shoot with, and they are some damned accurate rifles.

well shit, I didn't do it. My grandfater came by the way of it from his brother. I'm thinking this thing has been like this since the 60's at least.

I have the rifle..... never seen a pistol setup like that. How does the wood look?

I did run into two old Savage guns set up the same way. Both were chopped down rifles. Barrels were cut with a terrible hacksaw job. The gangbangers went to jail for the illegal SBRs.
