+1 Besides the first Amendment says Congress shall make NO LAW, which too me is no more vague than the "SHALL NOT" part of the second. Oh and before everyone calls me a coward, a commie, a traitor, etc... <------------ former Army engineer. |
Yeah and Benedict Arnold was a former hero..... |
As distasteful as such desecration may be, a flag is only a symbol, which to my knowledge, cannot really be destroyed. It's protected speech. That's one of the things that separates constitutional conservatives from the looney left; the Bill of Rights applies to everyone, even those we may disagree with. Most liberals can't wrap their heads around that concept and it seems fewer and fewer people in general understand how it works. Traitorous congressman, etc. are another matter and of far greater concern as they can do lasting harm under color of authority. |
You are correct the proper way to dispose of an Amercian flag is by burning in an honorable and respectful way. |
Burning the flag in a respectful manner is an acceptable method of retirement. I was always taught to cut the field from the stripes, then the red from the white stripes, then burn each separately. |

Let me get this straight. It looks like everyone on the board KNOWS the guy holding the flag was the one who did the vandalizing? I'm not saying he didn't, but how about we find out the REAL story before you go accusing someone in uniform of desecrating a flag. Then again, this is just another thread that shows certain individual's opinions about the military. So---who has the REAL story? Maybe we should get it before blindly making accusations? |
Your not supposed to even discuss politics let alone protest while on Active Duty or in Uniform. |
That looks like a Photo shop. Look at how hes holding it(Left hand). |
No, but I suck with pictures. It's almost definitely a recruiting station. Look at the poster in the window-it looks like the NG brochures and ads. Plus, as a former recruiter--everything in the place looks like a recruiting station. |

Having been Soldier of the Month several times over in my Army days, this is one piece of military discipline that I remember well. The only proper way to retire a flag is to first cut the field from the stripes, and THEN burn it. In that manner, you are not burning the flag since it has already been 'disassembled'. If the soldier in the picture is responsible, he should be seriously reprimanded. If you don't get it, you were probably never in the military. |
![]() STFU, troll! Damn isolationist Ronbots are taking over the place. Our "murderous rage" is justified: When you attack our country's symbols, you attack US!!111 Sorry brother. Couldn't help it. Here's to hoping a quote on page two will garner more than one response, logic will prevail, and folks will slow down long enough to find out the whole story. Yeah, like that is gonna happen.
