What the hell does this mean?  I am seeing recently on quite a few TV shows where in the bottom left corner they will have the pound sign followed by a word or phrase relating to something happening in the show.  What the fuck is this for?

I think it has something to do with twitter.

I have nothing to do with social networking anymore, so I can't be sure.

It's some kind of tag thing that uploads whatever you say before that to some website.

Example: 9mm>45 #ARFcom would put "9mm>45" on some website under the ARFcom section.

Twitter tag.

Basically if you were to put #afghanistan in a twitter post, that word will be 'tagged'.  Thus anyone wanting to look up recent tweets that have that tag in it can simply click on the #afghanistan to see everyone who's tagged that word.
