I need some help designing a unit patch for our aviation unit. We had some changes in the brigade recently, and each unit now will have thier own patch.

It will be circular, 4 inches across.

We are A company 2/147th aviation and our callsign is the "Ghost Riders"

Anyone out there interested in giving me a hand?

You mean something that doesn't look like the Klu Klux Klan on horseback?

[#2]
Well, that would be ok also, as long as there is no referance to KKK. Lmao

I was playing with a grim reaper on horseback, or one of those smoking skulls with a cowboay hat, but am not that good.

Perhaps a "Ring Wraith" type rider.  Very intimidating.

Ha! I am in A Co, 1-147th and we are also coming up with a new patch design. The Bn CO wants something new and I think I agree. I will submit something with "Mad-City Lift and Limo" or "Lance Lift and Limo" (call signs are Lance) across the top and see how it does.

How about "Ghost Riders" at the top of the patch,A company 2/147th aviation at the bottom, and the Four Horesemen of the Apocalypse depicted in the center of the circle?

Hey, I was a Ghost Rider several years ago. It was C Troop 1/6 Cav and then we reflagged as D Company 1-229th Attack Helicopter Bn. Nothing more beautiful than a flightline full of Bell products. Cobras, 58s, and Hueys as far as the eye can see. That was before the Army of Emptiness when a gun platoon had 15 birds, allied shops were part of the company, and 19Ds did all the details. Those were the good old days.

I have a friend who collects unit patches and  has quite a few. He also does high quality amatuer photography and has been published at least a few times (aviation magazines). I know he's been invited to do aerial shoots, airshows etc. and so those of you who know him like his work. I'd be happy to hook you guys up.

Do you have any info on your unit history / lineage? I would try to retain at least one element from the old Brigade patch, plus one element (even if it's just a color thing) that ties it into something else historical (look up your regimental crest - probably best source). From then, use your imagination. It may be hard to pull off, but a grim-reaper thing on a winged demon-horse sounds really cool.

Whatever the end design, I think the subdued version should feature MARPAT camo [}:D].

Here is a couple shots of the Helmet. I tried to put it on a white background to make it easier to cut it out if you need.

ALSE took it off last time they inspected the damn thing. WE are having a shortage and someone going to Rucker needed it (shrug)

Somethings been bugging me that I need to say...

If your regiment is just an affiliation the unit shoulf be written as 2-147 AVN. The only time you use a "/" is if you are showing the actual HQ you fall under. So you are A/1-147 AVN. Only the ACR, 160th, Rangers, etc. have actual regimental structures - thus they would use the "/".

I wouldn't have said anything, but when I saw the "correct" portrayal on the spongebob squarepants patch (a classic, BTW) my concern that your battalion was different floated away.
