I'm in the middle of doing a corrected e86 form, and one of my corrections is an old credit account. My credit report doesnt have the full acct number, just a 311...
How much trouble would I be in if I forgot to list this, but did the rest of my credit history? I have the feeling its a bad idea, but I desperately want this job. |

e86 as in the old sf86 for a security clearance? If so answer the questions to the best of your knowledge. If you need to explain something like this use the free text areas. I'll have to check for one in that bracket here shortly. That might save my ass. And yeah, its the same form. They called me today (day 25) to tell me that by day 23 (2 days ago) I needed to have corrections submitted. Its still not showing as late in the system, so I'm trying to squeak in if possible, considering they are the ones that screwed up on this.

Not sure what type of check they are doing on you OP, but for clearances the credit check is one of the first things they pull.
List it. If you don't know the number, you don't know the number, put in what parts of the number you do know. As was mentioned by SmilingBandit, fill out to the best of your ability and use the free text if needed. |

Be scrupulously honest on the 86. Totally up front. If you have credit issues, resolve them or start working on resolving them in a way that you can describe on the form.
They want to identify a number of things from a history of bad judgment, to habits that might make you vulnerable, but the worst thing they can catch is you in a lie. Automatic dump. I've known people that told some scary assed stories and still got their clearances. It was all about whether the adjudicators thought the story indicated the person would be vulnerable to leverage from bad guys. They don't really care if you used to be a gay porn star or worse if your Mom knows about it and you don't care who else does. If you have big gambling debts to Guido the killer loan shark however, you might be more open to that proposal to bend a few rules.......or so the logic goes. Bottom line, tell the truth, and explain what you have to explain. |
