| is their a limit on ammo a citizen can posess, and is this federal or state mandated? |

I just received my first 1000 round box of M855 green tip surplus, plus about 500 rounds of 9mm 145JHP for my Glock 17. I know that's not so much compared to many here on arfcom, but it's my first big supply. I feel ready to take on a small militia (not really, but it's a nice feeling to know that you have more than enough available) :-) |
Get about 10X that and we will talk. ![]() My friend uses his closet as his ammo storage. I am guessing he has around 20,000 rounds or so. 7.62/9mm/40sw/.223 |
I've only got one rifle and a few handguns. I know, I know... You can NEVER have to much ammo. But I already have enough to load my 20 30round mags almost 2 times each, so I feel OK for a short term scenario. I've got enough ammo to fill my 12 Glock 18 rounders and my 2 Glock 33 rounders with plenty to spair. I've got a few hundred rounds of .357 and 38 as well for the revos. Give me a break guys! I'm just getting started. Now, I'm waiting till I get the ACOG before I order any more ammo. |
Fixed it for ya. Before someone says it - no, don't have to burn all the expensive stuff up at the range. |

You should have and never go below 2,000 rounds for each caliber gun you own. So if you have two AR's. You should always have 4,000 or more rounds in .223. Most people buy ammo as they need it. To get the best bang for your buck. Save up and buy all your ammo once a year. I was taught this by a guy at Dillons one day. I noticed he was getting a shit load of reloading supplies. So, I started talking to him. After they brought all is order up to the counter, on a big cart. We wheeled the cart, out to the back of the store. Loaded it all in his plane and he flew away. Dillons is in the Scottsdale, AZ Airpark. He can taxi his jets out the back of his store to the runway. Can you imagine being at work. And say what the hell. Time to go fly one of my T-38's. I know it must be nice to fly to get your ammo. And all of us can't do this. But to get the most out of your money. Get with your shootin bud's once a year and buy your ammo together. Instead of buying 1,000 rounds 5 to 10 times a year. Get together with your buds and buy 20,000 to 50,000 rounds together once a year. You'll save yourself alot of money and time. |

I think some fire ordnances limit the amount of ammunition you can have, or so I have heard. I have no direct proof of this. My bigger iproblem is findign a place for all this. My closet is getting pretty full of ammo cans. It's gotten bad enough where I look at some of them and have no idea WTF is inside them. I opened one up and found a few hundred loose .45acp and 8 1911 mags, |
a shitload of Lakecity 62gr surplus, I need ammo boxes. |
Havent been by there yet. Its hard to get my since they arent close and Im not awake during most gunstore hours |
What kind of boxes? I have about 175 stripper clips and some chargers if you want to do some wheelin-dealin |

I store my ammo either loose or in boxes in GI .30 cal ammo cans. A .30 cal can holds 480-500 rnds of 5.56 depending on boxed or loose. If in boxes, I mark date with a Sharpie, either date of mfg if on the box, if not, I mark the date purchased (just month and year such as 12-04). If loose, I write date on a 3x5 card and leave on the top of the ammo in the can. I drop in a dessicant pack. These are kept in the house in airconditioning. Heat is ammo's enemy (though not as bad as politicians). Some cans I have the ammo all on stripper clips. If so, I drop a couple of stripper clip guides on top along with the date card and dessicant pack. I have some nice cardboard boxes that are perfect for mag storage. I have each box made up like this: On the bottom is a "six-pack" mag pouch (Galati International GLMP30) with 10 USGI 30 rnd mags stacked side by side on top. There is also a GI cleaning kit with extra bore and chamber brushes, and a couple of stripper clip guides. One mag box is a "kit" for one rifle. So, a person could grab one rifle, one mag box, and one ammo can and have just about all he would need. Am I organized or whut??? |

When you have enough ammo to make the ceiling crack because the floor is being weighed down, then you're off to a good start. Then you can move it to the basement or reinforce the floor. I've learned many lessons in my life. Most of them the hard way. Lesson #1. You can never have enough ammo. |
