could someone tell me if www.botac.com is legitimate? has anyone purchased anything from them? there prices are wild on some items. thanks in advance! |
I bought a Leupold scope from them a while back. They had the best price anywhere. I had no problems with them whatsoever. Later I started reading negative comments about them here. All I can say is that based on the flawless previous purchase, I would have no reason not to buy from them again. I would be interested to know how many people who bash Botac have actually ever bought anything from them, and if so, how long ago it was. If someone wants to share a bad experience they had with Botac thats one thing. But to steer people away from a company based on hearsay and conjecture is just wrong. Thats just my 2 cents. |

I have never ordered anything from them,but I know someone who has.Taking into account all the horror stories I have read on here,and experience of one of my friends I have come to one conclusion: Call them to see if they have the item in stock,if they do,order it.If they don't,run away.Fast. |
| Our dept. used to purchase from them all of the time. They used to have issues with communication though... you could call or email and never get an answer or response. There were months where it seemed like they were out of business. They may have worked out the kinks, but in the past they had great prices and great shipping (when they tried.) |
| I've always had good luck with them. But, I only order through the phone and have always made sure that the operator has the item in hand when the order is placed. I've heard lots of horror stories of people ordering from them online and never being told that an item is out of stock or no longer being carried. |

Do not order online. Call their telephone number and only provide credit card information AFTER you've gotten them to visually confirm they have what you want in stock. If they can't visually confirm it, you WILL NOT RECEIVE IT. Do a search for 'botac' on this board. Right now, I count 11 seperate threads most of which are full of mostly complaints. |

I have spent literally thousands of dollars with them....no problems.... except one Galco belt that I was charged for and didnt receive for 9 months. Then my wife decided to order a pair of Wiley-X glasses for me for a Christmas present. Charged her, never shipped, then refused to refund for a long , long time. Way more difficult then it should have been to get it fixed. Was a real PITA to get it resolved. I have not bought a damn thing from them since, I am tempted at times, but then midwayusa or lapolicegear saves me from doing business with them. |
| I ordered a couple years ao. Listen to folks when tye say to call and make sure they have things in stock. I ordered a lot of stuff at once and got everything in a timely fashion except for some mag extensions. Never new why. I had to email twice to find out they were out of stock. The good thing is that they didn't charge me for the mag extensions. |

I personally have made several purchase from them. The Drug Team I was on would make group purchase to cut back on the shipping (CA to Michigan). It seems we never made an order that did not have a problem of some sort. 1.) Order an advertised sale item, ask them if it is in stock. They will respond, "Yes." If it is, you will get it as advertised. If it isn't, you may wait for MONTHS (no exaggeration, did so on a pair of511 pants). 2.) When that missing single item rolls in, you will be completely re-hammered on the shipping and handling. You be the judge. Based on about 6 messed up sales and about 2 smooth transactions, I elect not to conduct business with them any longer. To each their own...  P.S. Any communication regarding an order AFTER the initial order is placed...will be a complete and total test your ability to maintain control. This part TRULY is SO BAD, I can't describe it! |

I've had mostly good luck with them. One time my order was delayed by about 4 weeks, I emailed and got "we're waiting for something backordered". When it showed up they threw in a gerber knife sharpener (I had ordered a bunch of knives and random gear). verdict: If you need something in a hurry, consider another source. If you want a great price and are patient, go for it. |
| They have fixed their ordering system. If you order it and they dont have it, they dont bill for it and drop it from your order and ship what they do have. If you are close to the 100$ free shipping, they round up. I have spent 200$ with them in the last month. I will continue to do so untill they fuck up again. |
Last two times i ordered i couldnt find the fre shipping banner i had seen in the past. I think its an occasional promotion, not a full time policy? |
| For those of us fortunate to be local and get to go into the store (must be LEO/Fire/MIL) it's like being a kid in a candy shop! They are all real friendly and are happy to let you play with most anything there. I'm sorry to hear so many people have had such bad luck with them. They have been nothing but good to me and my people who also use them. |

As others have said, it’s a crap shoot. They have some very good prices, and items I can’t find elsewhere, but they are borderline incompetent and there customer serve is non-existent. If you are in no hurry, and have a high frustration tolerance, give them a try. I have ordered from them 4 or 5 times in the part 6 years. A few purchases went well, but most did not. Some took months to get the ordered items, or required that I file a complaint with my CC to get my money back. However, after a 2 year period of not ordering from them because of past experiences, I placed an order (online as I couldn’t get a salesman on the phone) this past Tuesday, and received an email yesterday indicating all items had shipped. |
| Ordered from them twice. First time items shipped within two days. Second and last time it took over a month and a half. I don't mind waiting sometimes, but don't charge my credit card and then not ship items for over a month. Prices are excellent but with other alternatives, I prob won't order from there again. . . |
| I've ordered from them twice with no problems. As others have said, I would definately recommend giving them a call to check stock status, then order. I bet close to half the people on here are supporting their opinion through hearsay and not personal experience. |

3 orders. order 1, no problems order 2, CC charged, 2 weeks go by. I call them and they have no record of me whatsoever when searching by my address, my CC#, my name, etc. After 4 weeks, 17 phone calls and 2 faxes to them (I had to fax 2 copies of the bank statement showing the debit), my order finally arrived. order 3, paid for next day air, was charged for next day air, rec'd item UPS ground. Item was placed in a next day air envelope and then the entire envelope/package was then put into a box and shipped ground rate. no credit given. I'll now pay more for reliability/customer service. | They are legitimate, however they are a small business. They are not staffed like Brownells or Sportsmans Guide... Orders can be delayed or lost in the shuffle, but that is the exception, not the rule. I've ordered from them at least a half a dozen times over the past several years. The only problem I ever ran into was their losing an order I placed for a couple pair of 5.11 pants that I made through their Yahoo shopping link. For all I know, it was Yahoo's fault. I called them and made the order over the phone, and all was well. |

I've ordered from them numerous times. Never had a complaint. I only had one item out of a hundred that they didn't have. They called me to see if they can replace it with something similar. They do have great prices for most of their items. The only thing that sucks is S/H price. Their company is in CA... I live in FL... that couldn't be helped though. I trust them. |
This is the only way to deal with Botac. I've done it this way several times with no problems. |
I have orderd from them twice first time no issues at all. Second time OMG what a PITA. The whole order got fucked because one $10 item out of a $300+ order was backorderd. They charged my card and didnt send any of the order. Took me a month just to get an answer on why it never shipped. Took another month for the refund.  Just read MOS2111's post maybe they have corrected the issue. |
| I would not recommend Botac. They are legitimate, but their internet business is very poorly run. I ordered last summer and was not informed that an item was out of stock until two weeks after my initial order. Of course they did not ship my in-stock item either. Over a month after my original order date I received everything, but it was not a good experience. |

I received an email solicitation for a sale on glock mags, placed an order, they arrived promptly and I was very happy with the transaction. This was six or eight months ago, IIRC. That's my only first hand experience. I knew what I was doing when I ordered. I accepted that it may be a while before they arrived, and I wasn't in a terrible hurry. Worked for me. |

I have bought 2 times and they messed up both of them. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice...........................  they charged me double for an eotech 553. I called there main number and left 5 diff. messages. I only got through when I called there govt. sales #. They did fix the problem but it was not smooth sailing. The other order didn't ship for 6 MONTHS I finaly just canceled the order. I will not be buying from them again. I just wish there prices weren't so good. $506 for an eotech 553 shipped is better than any other vendor.
