has anyone ever experienced caffeine withdrawl? ugh I've had 1-4 16oz cups of coffee every day for the past year and a half or so. I decided to quit last Monday. Tuesday I had no problems, but starting this morning I've been having a splitting damn headache. arghhhh |

Quoted: I try to cut it out for a week ahead of intl trips. It helps overcome jetlag. Like others have said, get headaches for a few days. But then I don't drink a hell of a lot but it's in more than you think. what helps with jetlag? being off the juice, or lowering the tolerance so it hits you harder when you use it? |

I used to drinks lots of coffee every day from age 18-21. Like a pot a day. Then one day I was in someone's house in a strange town, with no coffee in it, at least 5 miles to the nearest store. It wasn't just headaches but nausea, cold sweats and tremors as well that I suffered during withdrawal. My hosts thought I was addicted to something perhaps a little stronger than coffee. Caffeine contricts the blood vessels, and I think the headaches are caused by blood vessels in your head dilating back. |

drank 2 pots of coffee last night by myself... still couldnt stay awake... went to bed, slept... though for some reason i was a bit nauseated this mornign, and had the trmors a little.... I hate cramming for tests like this. back to studing (no coffee tonight!!) and, yeah, i quit once, got a horrible headache.... then i quit quitting and decided that just cutting back would be a good thing. |

I've had the Java monkey on my back since college. When things at work get busy I really dive in. It usually goes on until I start getting the shakes and sweats. Then I quit/cut way back. Seven days of migraines and somnambulating. Then I declare myself cured and celebrate with de-caf. It's a vicious cycle. Just remember, one day at a time. |
| I get into this stuff bad with the diet cola (thank god I don't drink coffee, I'd have shot my monitor and/or employees by now)-I have heard that it takes very little caffiene to avoid the headaches etc. When I start getting out of control I cut down to one in the morning and maybe one at night and then cut it out v. stopping cold turkey. |
| Oh, yeah. Big time. As you've heard, the headache is normal, and will go away soon. Don't be surprised if you end up with a hyper-sensitivity to caffeine, if you've been "using" for a long time. I still have an occasional Coke, this isn't too bad. Cappucino has the property that can make me run around on the ceiling for an hour or so. Very entertaining. I once worked for a guy who gave up drinking (a borderline alchoholic!), smoking (2 packs a day!) and coffee (about 2 pots) all at the same time. He was successful but the experience left him a strange and quirky character. I quit shortly after that, too much stress being around him. ==Bob |
| Tapering off was easier for me. Went from 4-5 mountain dews per day to 4-5 pepsi's (lower caffeine levels, or so I've heard). Then it was 3 mountain dews and a couple of seven ups. Decrease the caffeine drinks while increasing the other drinks. Didn't notice withdrawl symptoms at all. Think I did it in less than a month, too. |
