Starrett and Mitutoya are the best.  Kinda pricey but not out of reach, either.  I think the Starretts will set your back right around $140 or so.

What we use.  Great calipers that withstand tons of abuse in our shop.

Great accuracy, love the IP66 stuff they have.

Baer also makes excellent calipers.

I have Brembo brakes and clutch on my bike.

I have a set of Starretts my Grandfather/Great Grandfather used to use for my reloading.

I work for a tool company.  We sell a lot of Mitutoyo, Brown and Sharpe, Fowler.  It just depends on how much you want to spend.  We have them from $29.00  to $1150.00 for a 12".

I remember a thread ages ago where some guy got a Starrett micrometer set at a pawn shop for something like 30 bucks.  I think there were 5 different size micrometers in the box.  A great find.  Now I keep that in mind when I go to pawn shops.

I like mittutoyo calipers and mics.  They are a little bit cheaper than starrett, but not much.

If you are looking for mics too, check out some of the sets they sell. They will usually include
a set of 6 inch calipers, 0-1 mics and a 6 inch rule.  Try travers, msc, grainger or enco for sales
they have every month.
