| I have heard alot about this but was just wanting to see what it takes to get a garand from them. I think that you have to be a member, is that correct? How does one become a member? Also do you have to purchase in person from the store or can you order online? Which garand that they offer is the best bang for the buck? Thanks |

www.odcmp.com In a nut shell, You must provide proof of age and U.S. citizenship. You must provide proof of participation in CMP recognized shooting activity (Mil., LEO, CCW qualify). You must be a member of a CMP affiliated club. You can join the Garand Collectors Association for $25.00. They sell Various grades of M1 rifles, M1903 rifles, target rifles and M1 carbines (soon). Ammunition, parts and accessories as well. Most importantly, the CMP promotes shooting sports and marksmanship. You can order by mail or walk in to the CMP store. |

The requirements to buy a rifle from CMP have gotten easier in the past couple years. Past or current military service will do, having a concealed carry permit is enough too ("proof of marksmanship"), membership in a CMP affliated club, membership to the Garand Collectors Association (probably the easiest route to go), etc. You can order online, but the best bet is to go to the store so you can pick one out yourself. |
When I order my M1 Garand(back then it was the DCM, and it took them 1 year to deliver, but since Bill Clinton privatized the DCM/CMP, today they only only take a few weeks. The only good thing that came out of the Clinton Admin for gunners), you also need a set of fingerprints done by a professional fingerprint place(look in the local Yellow Pages phone book), or the local PD(if it is available). And all of the info has to be notarized by a licensed notary. Sukebe: The DCM/CMP has various exemptions for ex-mil & LE. I would check the website for the most up to date requirements. BTW: I've called the CMP on the phone once, they are really friendly people to deal with and they really try to be helpful, so please don't abuse them too much. |
The CMP has no fingerprint requirement. |
Cool! The last time I bought a Garand, was when the DCM/CMP sent a letter saying that "congrads, your name has been selected for a M1D, please remit the amount of $x by y date." And "low and behold" 1 month later a M1D showed at my door step via Fed Ex. My first Garand was delivered by register mail USPS. |
I've applied..................waiting

i think you gotta be a natural born citizen to qualify. |
just cross through mexico and set up a taco stand like everybody else does, its the fastest/easiest way
|
IIRC its just US citizenship. |
wheres dkprof when ya need him. |
Not to hijack or anything, but why in the hell is it so hard for citizens of our greatest friend in the world to emigrate over here? We have whole .gov departments to hand out goodies to illegal mexicans, but citizens of a country that has sent troopies to allmost every fight we have been in for the last century get the short end of the stick
|
Is Dk a legal resident or a citizen |
|
From the odcmp ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS By law, the CMP can sell surplus military firearms, ammunition, parts and other items only to members of CMP affiliated clubs who are also U.S. citizens, over 18 years of age and who are legally eligible to purchase a firearm. U.S. Citizenship: You must provide a copy of a U.S. birth certificate, passport, proof of naturalization, or any official government document that shows birth in the U.S. or states citizenship as U.S. |
For the last hundred years the Brits have stuck with us through thick and thin. A British passport ought to be enough to come to America, either to live or visit. |
You know, I wonder that on an almost daily basis... |
The main problem I see with that is that the libs in Britain are like our libs in that they want open borders, only they have made that legal, while ours just look the other way. What that means is that it's VERY easy to become a British |
dont know, but he's always bitching he cant get a garand from the cmp |
Golly jeeze Louise, but that was painful to read!
|
The club requirement is waived for active duty military, BTW... |
