I've left quite a bit of it behind, but I used to be really big into classical music when I was young and competed in music memory events in elementary and junior high. Basically they would play a few seconds of a tune and we had to know what it was. I was very good at it.

Today I don't listen to it as much, but I can still feel the emotion of each and every piece. There are some that can bring me to tears.

Then again I'm a little drunk this evening...

That's awesome. I'm a sucker for a great film score. Only a handful of
video games have ever done it very well. Michael Giacchino was great
with the Medal of Honor series. Red Dead Redemption, which comes out in a
little more than a week, caught my attention with some fantastic scores
in their trailer. I pre-ordered the game just for the sake of getting
the soundtrack as a bonus.

Ennio Morricone is one of my favorite composers of all time. I'm big
into westerns, but he's done some great stuff in other genres. The
Legend of 1900 is one of my favorite movies.

I used to play trumpet in high school/junior high, and not to sound all
band nerdy, but some times I really do miss playing music. I play a
little bit of piano but I'm not near as good as I was with the horn.

One of the most beautiful scenes ever done. Michael Kamen was great too on the series score, but that scene was amazing.

Im a huge Richard Wagner fan and i really think that when his music is played that a soul and/or epic mystical type thing is emmited.

I think one of the most underrated composers of the romantic era was Sergei Rachmaninov.  We all know his famous works such as "Rhapsody On A Theme Paganini," in which countless variations can be found in many movies.

However, I believe some of his lesser known works such as the Symphonic Dances and the First Symphony do not receive the proper recognition.  I share a real performance from the Chicago Symphony (from CSO.org) of the First Symphony, along with other great composers works.

http://cso.org/ListenAndWatch/Details.aspx?id=11652

My second favorite is the infamous composer George Gershwin.  This great man always had a story to tell through music.  We all are familiar with Rhapsody in Blue after watching countless United Airline commercials, but how many Americans listen to other storied works such as the Cuban Overture and An American in Paris?

The soundtrack to the Pirates of the Caribbean films were all awesome.  I didn't realize it until I got a change to listen to them.  You just don't notice them much when watching the movie.

Too many to list but I'll start by saying that my two favorite modern classical composers are Gustav Mahler and Samuel Barber.

Barber's "Adagio for Strings".  For me it defines what music should be.
