They don't mix.  Lots of folks with MMU capability use one as a support for the other since they will seperate cleanly.   I guess you could glue them back together after seperation ....

Good rule of thumb. PETG doesn't stick to anything except TPU.

Great to take advantage of that, as it makes cheap support material for anything (well, except TPU).  

If you needed to mix them you could design the print in such a way that it captures the piece so it can't fall out or come undone, but it's better to just use a different filament.

I disagree.  When I've done a filament switch and purged directly onto my PEI plate as the first layer of a new print, not only do they mix, they become an unremovable mess.  I had to use a knife and scrape at that shit for hours to get it off.

Also, I've read that "silk" PLA is a copolymer of PETG and PLA.

Most Silk PLA has an elastomer mixed in that makes it shiny. It often times makes it foam as well.
