OK, software gurus... I have two computers that are virtually identical - both HP 9000 series laptops with dual processors and dual hard drives. One has a 7600 Nvidia the other 8400,, one has AMD processors, one has intel processors, one has 2X100 drives, the other 2x160. Problem - the new machine has Vista and I *need* XP, stat. Solution (!?!) Both machines have a partition where there is a system restore. If I copy the system restore partition from the XP machine and overwrite the Vista restore partition, then run the XP restore on the Vista Machine... Will the drivers for teh things like the Nvidia go crazy, or is that not part of the partitioned hardware? Will the diff hard drive sizes/processors matter? Are you guessing, or are you SURE, and if you are sure, are you a paid IT pro? Thanks! |
+1 Also, windows grabs the serial numbers off major components. Its anti piracy code will kick in and nag you if you somehow manage to get the system working. -Foxxz |
I have a conference in Minneapolis I need my computer/XP for Monday. I had to buy the new laptop today b/c the screen on my old one broke. Corporate hasn't approved Vista yet. "Do not want" and "fail" RE: Vista. I had a feeling it wouldn't work... |
should of ordered a replacement screen for $300 or less, and called it good.. thats what we do here.. |
Swap screens?
