I've got DSL so I should have internet all the time when the computer is turned on...but I don't ....when I turn the computer on..everytime...my wireless network connection says - very low signal strength....so what I have to do is right click on the wireless network icon and select  "repair"....it goes through it's thing and at the very end it says in so many words "windows could not finish  repairing - clearing DNS cache"........but it fixs whatever wouldn't let me access the internet..the wireless network connection says signal strength is excellent and all works great...til I turn off the computer or just log off...then I have to do the samething again..and it always says the thing about "clearing the DNS cache" but it always works great after doing the "repair" link...if it matters I've got a Dell latitude.....what do I need to do to fix this concern...it's a pain to go thru that every dang time...
Thanks in advance for any help!

Maybe at first it is locking onto a neighbors wireless signal.  Make sure you tell it that your wireless network is the first choice.  Just a guess.

When it says 'very low signal' strength does it actually work at that point or not?

how far / how many walls are between your computer and your wireless router?

from the top down...I have SBC DSL - 2WIRE
The laptop is one room...not even 10 feet from the 2WIRE Gateway base...
I did go set right next to it...less than 1 foot between it and the laptop and it still did the same thing...absolutely no difference at all..
When it says "low signal" it does not work...
also when the network connection says "low signal"...the 2WIRE icon says "searching for signal"...
...I wrote down what it says this time..."windows could not finish the repair because the following action cannot be completed: Clearing the DNS cache - for assistance contact the person managing the network"

Thanks , Russell

Definately make sure you are locked onto your netword signal.  If so, as stated, walls will definately drop the signal alot.

Check to see what channel the router is set on.

2wire sucks.  Still, the setup you described should be working fine.  You can look at the settings for the wireless connection by right clicking on it in the Network Connections, right click on your wireless connection, go to properties, then hit the configure button, go to the advanced tab and uncheck any power management and see if that helps.

Someone else suggested that you might be connecting to another wireless network nearby and you should follow up on that.  Make sure that your wireless network is at the top of the list when you "view available networks"

It is the wireless internet, not the DSL. I would personally just reset everything ad start over. I have found it takes less time in the end and it fixes it.

Flush the DNS if thats something thats its not fixing. May not fix your problem, but you can try.

Go to start, run, type cmd, then type ipconfig /flushdns

I really do thank all of you that offered help...it was greatly appreciated!

PROBLEM SOLVED!!

I'm not sure which one fixed the problem..but it's working perfectly now..everytime..

I did find that there was another wireless signal that I was picking up..it was 2WIRE also...I also found that there was still a Linksys wireless-G notebook adapter file loaded on the computer...(I recently acquired the laptop..it is used)   I uninstalled / removed the Linksys file...

On checking to see which of the 2WIRE signals was on top by using the "view availabe wireless networks"...I could'nt ...everytime I tried it it would say something like..."windows cannot configure this web site connection -...if you have enabled another program to manage them use it...or if you want Windows to configure it start the wireless  zero configuration (wzc) service - for info see article 871122 in the microsoft knowledge base on the microsoft.com website"

anyway...the concern I orginally had is working so thank you all!
