anyone ever heard of an application called "face browse.exe"?
Ive  had a problem with virtual memory lately, and when i went to the task manager, i found a program called "face browse.exe" using all my RAM. It will be listed in my task manager 20-30 times.
Ive ran McAfee multiple times, adaware 6.0  and Spybot search & destroy 1.23.
I can delete out of my task manager, and stop the application, but i cant delete or uninstall this thing.
I have used the search function, but cant delete from the search box. I cant even find the program searching through  my computer, even though i have the directory its supposed to be in.
here is where it is listed in  properties C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DvdItchCurbFork
any help would be appreciated.

Try going to start then run.   Type msconfig. Look for the tab that says start up. Browse for that file and unclick it. Click Apply and restart.  If your using something other than Windows 98, it might be different. Hope that helped. Make sure your virus definitions are updated. If you cant figure it out, you might need to back up all your important data and reformat the drive. I installed Kazza once, it screwed everything up were I had to reformat it. No fun but your computer will run like new again.

it might be a hidden file.  right click on the file it's suposed to be in and click propertys. then find and activate show hidden files.  once you can see it you should be able to delete it.

I have never heard of this program before.

after doing the msconfig thing the program should not be running and therefore allow you to delete it.

Do you have FAT32 or NTFS for your file system?
Right click your hard drive icon and look in the Properties tab.
If its FAT32, you can boot your pc with a regular boot floppy and delete that
sucker.
If you have NTFS, then read and understand this then download it.

NTFS Boot Floppy

Boot with the floppy and search for that face hugger exe, then delete it.

Good luck bro.

used NTSF boot floppy disk.
Wont let you delete files.
choices are.
1. TAB = switch between DOS  and longfile names
2. ENTER = select file- preview selected file
3. CTRL-C =copy file
4. CTRL-U = unerase
any utility programs that will let me delete an otherwise undeletable file?
thanx

Run msconfig again and on the General tab select Diagnostic startup. Then reboot this will load only the 'basic devices and services' then when it boots up try and delete the file/directory. If you are successful run msconfig again and then set it back to normal startup.

Are you familiar with the registry editor (regedit)?

Although you can get just about ANY application  to stop running with regedit, you can also do MASSIVE damage with regedit if you dont know what you are doing...  IMHO stay away from regedit unless you know  EXACTLY what you are doing.

Using XP cool.

Try this. Go to start/programs/administrative tools then click on services.

Hunt that list up and down looking for either "face browse.exe" or "DVDItchCurbFork" and then right click and choose stop from the menu. Then right click on it again and choose properties and in the Startup Type choose disabled and then OK.

If it doesn't show up under services I would do a regedit search for it and do surgery to remove anything related to either of those names and their keys.

When Google didn't come up with a hit on either name that got me to thinking that someone has created a trojan just for you.

Well I wasn't going to suggest that he delete every key in the registry, just that he take a LOOK at those in HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run and post what is there, and if anything was suspicious I was going to let him know my opinion, but nevermind I guess.
