There is a group of people that go looking for stuff like that, they find a lot of cool stuff. One thing that sticks in my mind was a WWII helmet with bullet hole and the skull still inside. I have a few pics saved somewhere I'll see if I can dig them up.

EDIT: found them

From a historical perspective I would love to hear the back-story of those helmets, ie where were they found, from what battle, and why were the reamains never recovered, and what will become of the remains now???

They say a  picture is worth a thousand words, I think these would be worthy of a thousand stories....

i found a website of a chick who lives in Germany and goes to the battle areas and finds stuff all the time, and it isnt too uncommon for her to find bodys still. well, skeletons. it just seems like they die in the heavily wooded areas, and over time the leaves and dirt blow over them, they wouldnt be found without the metal detector picking up a trace of their rifle or belt buckle.

When I was with the Army in Germany, we went on an NCO educational tour of Verdun-you wouldn't believe the amount of ordnance and equipment that is still just lying around on the ground-everything from buckles, boot heels, to fully loaded stripper clips and unexploded mortar rounds.

If, by "something", you mean "creepy", I'd have to agree.

I know the guy in the pictures is Russian and I think that most of these were found around what was Stalingrad. I don't remember much else I save those pics a long time ago.
