I need one for my basement - it's approximately 1500 sq ft. I'd like it to have a humididty setting. I've heard that they make dehumidifiers specifically for basements. Any info would be appreciated.

The question becomes 'what are you planning on doing with the water?  The condensed water must be removed from the machine.  Is a drain available or do you have to 'flush up'?  My dehumidifier has a pan that has a built-in drain connector.  Do you grow indoor plants?  The water from your machine has no minerals in it.  Might work on some of your plants.  Also, you would want to have a fan that moves the air around in the basement, eliminating or reducing damp corners.  How well is the room sealed from intrusion of outside air?

I would go to Sears and get a second one if this I have quits.

Cross check Consumer Reports against your local Sears sale list.

I have a sump pit that it can be drained to - then it feeds into a gravity drain which goes directly outside - so emptying a tray really isn't an issue. The basement is unfinished at the moment, but eventually will be.

I have the GE 40 qt. in my basement. In the summer here in OK, humidity gets pretty high. The GE models have buckets in them that shut the dehumidifer off when they get full.

I dump mine about every day in the summer, and at least once a week in the winter. My basement is about 450 sq. ft. The specs on the 40 qt. dehumidifier says it will work in a 2500 sq. ft. room. It keep my basement nice and dry with humidy levels in the 30 - 40% range according to my cheap humidity gauge. I have no problem with rust on my dies, presses or guns.
