Have you replaced the water pump itself? They are pretty crappy in these imo, and may have caused the lost belt, just had to replace the one in my GF's 08' XD that went out at 80k. Look under the hood for dried coolant spray. It's possible it overheated and messed up something major.

Any codes?

Just about every light is lit. Low Battery voltage, water temp,VSC,trac control OFF when it isn't. I don't have a code reader.

Sounds to me like he has precisely the same number of problems. Most like a bad head gasket.

Anyone want to buy a '05 Scion parts car? It overheated so bad that it melted the plastic top of the radiator to the point the rad cap wouldn't screw on.

How/why?  What did your brother do to it?

Wow, really sounds like there was a whole lotta wrong with that car, how did your brother manage to screw the engine up that bad?  I mean, it's basically a rebadged Toyota.

cosmetically he trashed it ,but the engine was ok. My son works for SIx Flags in Jackson,NJ and I don't know exactly when the water pump belt broke, but he just barely made it to work before it died at the the employee entrance gate. No aftermarket company makes engines for Scion so to replace the head gasket, etc, etc I'm looking at $2000. A used "wreck" motor is about the same and I don't want to know what Toyota would cost me. So I think i'll just scrap it.

Hey man, if thats and aluminum block, you may have trashed the motor. Unless that's a wife's tale.
