I just had a molar pulled about 2 hours ago, and now when I swallow Im pulling air through the socket from my nose. during the extraction I was under gas and I remember the Dentist saying something about my sinuses. I just spoke with him and I have to go back in tomorrow first thing in the am. he says 99% of the time this heals on its own as long as I'm careful. should I be concerned? I've heard that it happens, but it's not a good thing. There is some danger of infection. This topic is relevant to my interests. I had a molar pulled a couple of months ago, and bone graft (cadaver) material inserted in the socket. That has healed, and on 10/24 I am scheduled to be drilled, tapped, and have an implant post screwed in. Because this will be so close to the maxillary sinus, I'll be having a "sinus lift" procedure to prevent the sinus membrane from being punctured. This is all frighteningly expensive, but I feel a lot better than I did with an abscessed tooth. |

Sounds like you have a sinus perforation. It could be from an abscess that had previously penetrated into the sinus, or just due to the roots being in or near the sinus. Hopefully you don't have a root tip that was pushed up into the sinus causing the opening.
When this happens to a patient I am working on, I will pack the socket with resorbable gauze and suture it shut. If it is left open like your's .is now, it is more likely to heal open, and need further surgery. You should also be on antibiotics. You should also get some nasal saline spray and try to keep it as moist as possible up there. Hope that helps. |

Quoted: Haven't had it done yet but one of my upper molars requires a "sinus lift" as well. I'm a little dodgey about the cadaver graft. So I've put it off. It's not bad once you get past the thought that the doctor might be putting ground-up bone from someone you knew into your head. |

I'm getting the antibiotic in about an hour. I'm expecting ill end up getting more stitches and packed tomorrow. thanks for the knowledge. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
