This kind of question gets posted every now and then. I posted something similar a while back. The general consensus that I've taken from all the threads is that this is a "classic fear-of-inadequacy dream" often experienced by people who are "self-defense oriented". Edited for missing word. |

I looked it up too...
A common occurrence, but I’m not sure there’s a clear way to explain it… There are many interpretations, but I’ll do my best. The first feeling I have is the duality between “action” and “response”. A lot of times when we act deliberately, it is because our Ego is trying to do something. When we “react” to something, it is usually a matter of necessity. It seems that the deliberate use of a pistol represents our ego, in action. The only problem is (if you’ve studied our ego), that the ego really doesn’t have our best interest in mind. The ego is set about foolish things that our bodies can’t really keep up with. Part of maturing into an adult is letting the ego die, so we can enjoy more of life. It seems to me the ego is deliberate (if not very well thought-out action). What the dream may be telling you, is that you are deliberately trying to make something happen, but all the while, your deliberate actions may be counterintuitive or counter productive. That is to say: every step you intentionally make towards your goal may only be taking you away from your goal. Pulling the trigger will only result in failure. This is a difficult concept for the American mind to accept. I believe this is the fundamental of your dream. It’s like you are trying the same thing over-and-over, but you’re learning something… In some schools of understanding things, the best way to get what you want is to relax, trust your soul, and let life happen. Open your soul to what you need, and amazing things will happen. On the other hand, the Ego is a notorious way of screwing up your life goals, relationships and desires. You can’t always get what you want, and if you try sometimes, you find you get what you need. So I say relax. If you intentionally draw and try to fire, you may find that the gun/bullets don’t work. But if you need it, you’ll draw/aim/fire without even thinking about it. |

I've heard the subconscious doubt / self confidence / train more one myself.
I don't have dreams involving firearms very often, the last one I remember I was a hollyweird style nypd LEO and my handgun functioned exactly as intended. Most of the dream was about dealing with the paperwork. Talk about weird. |
| Yes, and very often. Sometimes im back in Iraq or A-Stan, and others it takes place in my house. I think it has something to do with being scared to fail, for me that is failing as a soldier, or failing as a father. Another dream I have often is the kind where your teeth fall out or shatter, and I have no clue on what that is supposed to mean. |

Never had a dream of a malfunctioning firearm or a heavy trigger pull. They've always worked for me. About 3 years ago, I had a dream where some guy was holding a gun up to my dad's head on the side of a freeway. He shot my dad before I could get my gun out and I shot him right between the eyes. I still remember both of them going limp and falling to the ground. It was the most realistic dream I've ever had. Woke up crying. Haven't had a shooting dream since.
However, I have had many dreams where my arms felt so weak that I couldn't move them, preventing me from punching the guy. Then finally, about 2 years ago, I had a dream where I was beating the shit out of some scumbag. I had him on the ground and was hitting him full force in the face multiple times. It was incredibly satisfying.... that is until my wife woke me up because she was screaming/crying. Turns out I was actually beating on her hip. |

Another dream I have often is the kind where your teeth fall out or shatter, and I have no clue on what that is supposed to mean. Loss of or damage to teeth can mean many things, depending on one's culture and outlook. Generally in the western culture it relates to an anxiety about aging and perhaps losing one's appeal. It can also relate to a feeling of loss of well being for some reason that is bothering you subconsciously (and very likely quite consciously in such cases). To determine what the meaning is in a given case the individual would need to consider such an event in their own context. What is it in a person's life that once felt so permanent and could be taken nearly for granted that is now threatened? It may help to examine social life, academics, finances, health - any number of things. But the common denominator is typically a fear of loss of that 'thing' that we valued but nearly overlooked - or a fear of losing the attention or affections of others because of such a change. In other cultures loss of teeth is believed sometimes to foretell the loss of a loved one, illness to come and other similar things - and many more. Again, context means everything - and in some cultures specific meanings are more frequently held as 'standard' whereas in the west we generally do not place great awareness on such details but rely more on venues like this one or published material - vague at best when it comes to specific 'interpretation'. These are general ideas - the dreamer must consider his or her own life situation and the fullest context they can identify to get any specific meaning. Very often however such things will surface once this line of thought is pursued with a bit of observation and suggestion to go by. |

I've had those dreams from time to time. The most recent firearms related dream I had I didn't have the million pound trigger pull problem. I had a different problem. I was squeezing off quite a few rounds (in slow motion- like the Matrix) at this one guy, and I shot him a half dozen times in the chest. I was seeing the bullets impact, but he still wouldn't go down. Shot him a few times in the face and he still kept coming at me, even with the bullet holes in his face. Then I woke up. ![]() |

Serious answer: You need to train more. This is the most common firearms dream. Audie Murphy himself had a dream where each time he pulled the trigger on his M1 a part fell off the gun until he only had the trigger left. The dream has nothing to do with needing to train more. Although, that is always a good idea. |
