Do not buy anything through eBay.com
That site is full of and probably run by con artists and rip offs.

I've had mostly good experiences with eBay. I even buy gun stuff there all the time. EBay makes its own rules- it's a private company, not a public utility. Don't like it? go somewhere else.

My problem is with the bidders.  I bid on an item yesterday.  I bid the maximum amount I was willing to pay for it.  Since that time there's some little termite that keeps bidding upping the bid about five dollars each time.  Of course every time he does that it means I pay a little more for the item.  He's still got a ways to go before he surpasses me, but every bid of his just makes it more expensive.  He's done it seven times so far since yesterday.

I hope his old lady is doing the paperboy.

This might be a case of 'shill' bidding.  The seller has a fake account that he uses to slowly jack up the price.  Watch the bidding activity closely for other suspicious bids (like you've been wisely doing), and if the shill bidder withdraws his bid when he goes over yours, then contact eBay about it.  They probably won't do anything (the higher the bid the more money they make), but you may as well give it a shot.  Just don't ever make a second bid higher than your first.  That's a suckers game.

Another thing the shill bidder/seller might try is beating your bid by a dollar or two at the last minute, and then contact your saying that the 'winner' (actually him in a fake account) pulled out of the sale at the last minute.  He'll offer to sell the item to you outside eBay for a lower price.  Don't do this!  It's a very common scam.

I've been using eBay for 6 years now, and it's really gone downhill.  Too many scammers, lots of deadbeat bidders, and it's impossible to get a hold of a real person to fix a problem.  There is literally no way to talk to a human being other than through their Live 'Help' system, and if you complain through that they just disconnect you.

But no matter how bad things are for buyers, its much worse for legitimate sellers.  Buyers can at least get a refund from eBay if everything goes tits up.  Sellers just have to take it up the ass when they sell an expensive item to someone who doesn't want to pay.  Items can get held up for weeks in the conflict resolution process.  And if you do sell, you have to take the risk of the buyer doing a chargeback and disappearing.  eBay's policies are such that they're likely to get paid regardless, and do nothing for you.  The scammer probably won't even get a strike against him.

eBay screwed me once in a scam resolution process, and I told them I'd never recommend that anyone use their site.  They seriously need to clean up their act.

i never had any problems but my frind bought a nintendo wii from a guy with high feedback. guy took his money and started with the weird excuses. ebay told him to wait and see if he ships its and no way to involve the police they would do that. that was the only contact he got from ebay.

This is why you DONT bid in an item until its last 30 seconds of auction. It still baffles me as to how many people dont realize this and bid on items 2 or 3 days out, its plain stupid. Just WATCH the item and when its about to end key in your maximum amount in the last 30 seconds. Youll be amazed at how little youll pay for things.

Stupid?

Here's an idea, why doesn't everyone wait until the last 30 seconds to bid?  Wouldn't that be exciting?  Better still, make the auctions only one minute long.

Unfortunately, when they had the original idea of how it was to work they forgot to factor in greed.  That tends to turn things to shit in a hurry...kind of like Ebay.

Wasnt calling you stupid, was sayng bidding on an item early on is stupid. Like you stated above, it makes you pay more for aparticular item. If everyone waited till the last 30 seconds, one you would have no idea who was bidding and two, you may just get that buis for $45 instead of the $100 someone bid you up to because you entered $100 3 days prior to the auctions end. Just trying to pass on info that works.
