Freecycling: How to get something for nothing View VIDEO 05:21 PM CST on Thursday, November 4, 2004 Laurie Waters, News 4 St. Louis (KMOV) – You have heard the expression one man's trash is another man's treasure. That theory is being taken to a whole new level. KMOV This Franklin County, Missouri home is being rehabbed using materials obtained through freecycle. It is sort of like E-bay, but it is free, and it is going gangbusters right here in the St. Louis area. Inside a Franklin County house is a computer network and a new philosophy about trash. "It’s about giving, it’s about giving. The most important thing is keeping it out of landfills," says freecycler Mike Peterson. That, in a nutshell, is freecycle. Before you throw something away, offer it up on freecycle.org. Somebody just might want it. "I thought, what a great idea. I can give stuff away cause you always have too much stuff, and then I thought, well, maybe I can get some stuff too," says Susan Kellmer. And has she ever. Kellmer has a cabinet she got through freecycle full of freecycle books. Then there is an ice cream maker, literature books for home schooling, a drawing table, printer, fabric, craft supplies and a kiddie pool. And it was all free. Is it addicting? Also Online Freecycle Web site “Yes," she says. Mike Peterson is rehabbing an entire house with freecycle stuff. "The central air conditioner, furnace all freecycle," he says. The gas grill, the cabinets, the vanity, the paneling, and even the toilet were all free. and that's not all. Look out the window and you will see the hot tub. That was free too. There are four kinds of postings on freecycle.org. What is offered, what is wanted, what is taken, and what has been received. That's all, nothing else. No spam, no politics, no religion, otherwise you are kicked off. All items must be legal, age appropriate, and free. Post what you want to give away, wait for e-mails asking you for it, and choose who you will allow to take it away. Deciding who gets what can be tough. Be prepared for a lot of e-mails.

| I'm on a local freecycle list, I get the digest version....one e-mail a day with all posts in it. I have seen some good stuff offered, but haven't needed any of it, but I'm sure something will come along. you could always give away those extra Bush/Cheney 04 stickers you have. |
