I'm not very happy with the daughter this morning!  I just walked into the bathroom to find my curling iron left on, on top of my hot rollers [plastic].  Smells to the high heaven.  Both Hot Rollers and Curling Iron ruined.

I so want to go kick her butt for this but I've already taken her to school.

Take them out of there and tell her that when you feel she's responsible enough to use your things, you'll let her know.  She'll 'wake up' real quick.

So tell her she can't use them.  Or put them away where she can't find them.

Will do. Actually these are ruined so I'm going to have her replace them.  Patty

She totally ruined them, she should replace them.

Yep - time for her to have to fork it over out of her allowance or work it off.

You could be very evil, and make her cut her hair to the point where she won't need a curly iron.

Time for a wake up call, on the bright side though the boy is doing well at football! Cup 1/2 full my dear.

As much as it is a pain, this can be a cheap lesson for your daughter.

You might point out that leaving heating appliances on unattended is a fire hazard.  She might have burned the house downand then she'd have noplace to live and she'd have to sleep in the snow and it'd be all her fault.
You might also point out that if she EVER smells anything burning, she should start searching, pin down the cause and fix it.  I had to point this out to my mother, who let some papers come in contact with a hot coffee warmer for several hours.  She's smelled the burning, but it didn't occur to her to think that burning smell may = fire.

I'm with Double. First the lecture - then make her pay to replace it.

Yes, I will.  I did call her at school and I was proud she admitted to forgetting about it.  I had a feeling she would deny it [don't know why?] so that made me feel better.  Lord knows I forget things but this is a huge safety issue.  I was about to leave the house to take her little brother to school.  There would have been a huge fire when I got back.
