I bought some cobras at walmart for about $35 dollars and they suck. It says 8 mile range but im lucky to get one mile out of em. Im gonna take em back. Does anybody know of any radios that will pick up 4 to 5 miles out pretty decent? I would like to stay under $50 bucks but if i cant then i will spend more to get a decent set of radios. Thanks.

I bought the corba 10 mile ones and they suck. I took them back on got the moto 10 mile ones for just over $100. THey are big and bulky, but work great. The talk-o-bout's work decent for a few miles.

Get your ham ticket. Then, you can build radios that suit your needs on the cheap.

your going to be hard pressed to find any gmrs or frs radion with that kind of distance. those distances they list are direct unimpeded line os sight on level terrain under PERFECT conditions. something you will never encounter in real life. expect 1-2 miles TOPS for any of them.
