if I find my barrel is slightly bent, is this something a local gunsmith MAY be capable of fixing,
OR
should I send it back to Bushmaster.

I bought the upper used from a local gun shop.
It looked very clean and the owner said he personally used it for Hogs.

I may contact him first but I have heard he is tough to deal with on issues like this,
and I am sure he will say it was fine when he sol it to me.
I went out and put 100 rounds through it and it shot extremely low.

I put a laser bore sight in it and it will not put a dot on the wall, but it does through a friends AR.

That's odd, never heard of a bent barrel. Do you think he use it for a crowbar? Anyhow, I bought a brand new Bushmaster Varminter and as I was installing the scope I noticed the barrel was slightly canted to the left. I had never fired the rifle. I eyeballed it from every angle and sure enough it was canted. I called Bushmaster, they sent me a postage paid mailer and I sent the entire upper back to them. In about a week they sent me another new upper. The barrel wasn't bent but I believe it wasn't seated properly to the upper reciever or maybe cross threaded.

I think every decent manufacturer gauges their barrels and straightens them as needed, can't see how a bad one would get by QC without being fixed.   I don't think most gunsmiths have the proper tool to do this for AR barrels but I guess a good one could improvise.

No factory rifle barrel is ever perfectly straight with the bore.  Most of the good manufacturers will gauge for straigtness and adjust the barrel if needed before it goes out the door.

This happened to me on my 16" hbar awhile back.  Sent back, reindexed, shoots like a champ now.

i will take it to a local gunsmith in the morning and have him look at it.
I heard he was awesome to deal with.
Now that you say it when I look down the barrel with the laser in it, it doesnt look bent but angled.
