Hello guys, its been a while since ive posted as i have been in basic training at FT Benning. Everything is good down here, My M16A4 has been awsome. I also have an M68 or Aimpoint Comp M2 mounted. I qualifies as a sharpshooter. And guess what, I bought a new AR while i was here in training. I had my dad buy it for me so I have a new DPMS AP4 waiting for me when i get home. well thats all for no guys, only 5 more weeks and i will beable to go back to my usual 2 hours per night of ARFCOM! |

Dang my kid went through USCG basic 2 years ago and were only permitted to write and receive mail on Sundays. Glad to see the coasties are keeping some traditions! Thanks for your service Ab! Your time will fly through the remainder of basic, just do what you are told and do it smartly! |
The required first letter home went someting like this: "Dear loved one, I have arrived safely at Parris Island, Love Recruit Simply_Green" |
they dont qualify with irons anymore? ETA, glad you are serving. I thought basic was friggin awesome. Everyone else thought I was nuts for it though. You going to jump school after? |
Wrong. Don't know about the Army and Navy but the only computer Trainee's see in AF Basic is when they come to the TI's office and they can't use it. Nothing in basic is done on a computer. They sure don't have fun time (or work time) on the internet. The only time I can think of is right before Grad and after Grad they can pay to use one at the Troop store if they are on base lib. But thats the last couple of days. |
dude, we are just bustin yer balls.
|
Sorry, I though he was serious. |
Big +1 The only time I saw a computer is when our kill hat made me and few other recruits watch that video of the russian being beheaded by the chechnyans over and over and over. He kept hammering home how if we trained half ass it would be us. Good training. Other than that you get MINIMAL contact with the world. |
plus one |
All of that is actaully true, except for the marching, we still , march ... somtimes. |

Wow... what the hell are bootcamps doing? Making it all warm and fuzzy? Maybe a nice little rose garden too? The only phone call we were allowed to make was when we arrived, stepped on the yellow footprints, get processed, and then called home, telling our loved ones we made it. Total? 7-10sec phone call. The only other time we were allowed to call was during Recruit Libo, Family Day, and after Grad. We didn't have any other communications other than snail mail. What is the world coming to? |
|
Damn, We only got one 5 minute phone call when I was at Ft. McClellan for Basic back in 1989. They stood and timed you too and yanked the phone out of your hand when the 5 minutes was up. This was at about 5 weeks in. It's disappointing to here they are qualifying with Optics and no Iron Sights. Teach a person to shoot with Irons and they will be a much better shot overall and with the Optics after they are introduced. Oh well what do I know. Anyway not to knock you or your sevrvice as I respect anyone that's willing to serve. Good Luck and Thank You to you ab_cartman. ETA: We didn't have internet access back then because Al Gore hadn't inveneted it yet. |

Dear Mom and Dad, Basic has been hell, I tell you! The other morning after Aromatherapy, I went to the dining facility to have some soy hotcakes and free range chicken bacon substitute, and I discovered that they were out of the Starbucks double lattes that I absolutely HAVE to have in order to have a good day of soldiering, so I immediately text-messaged the platoon grief counselor and headed over to her office. Well, after 3 grueling hours of introspective searching and deap breathing exercises, I finally had a good 20 minute cry and she wrote me a 2-day profile until the dining facility gets it's shit straight. The dining facility NCO was brought up on charges and should be demoted at least one rank by the end of the week and the dining facility officer got a bad OER, effectively ruining his career in this mans Army (and rightly so) for damaging my self-esteem. Gotta go, we are going to go see pictures of an actual rifle! I text you after we get back from evening pedicures. Love You, X ![]() ![]()

I will look and see if I can find the first letter from basic that my son sent me and thanks for your service, it takes some cajones to join in a time of war, especially going infantry, but then again Infantry Rules, everything else is just support for the infantry |
