ABS plastic without a door? Even 10 gauge steel with a simple key lock or two would have been better. Nothing like your friends 4 year old boy stumbling upon your M4 behind a mirror ... or even an earthquake exposing your stuff. Or the fact that break-ins usually leave the place ripped apart. Cool idea, but like you said even a superficial metal door and lock would be better then that. |

I like this idea. I would use it more for every day quick gun access than long term hidden gun storage.
I have been looking to build something similar, removing the wall covering between 2 studs and box out a frame, but figured I would just line the wall cavity with felt or something similar. This looks like a easier way to get built in shelves. I would need to fabricate my own mirror or picture with a locking mechanism to keep my kids from opening it, which is the only bummer. |
| Since most houses are wired differently, why not get an empty service panel. Install it in a wall and lock it. How often do thieves go around flipping breakers or checking service panel locations. I've seen them in living rooms, garages, master bedrooms, closets, outside. Just pick a logical spot and install. Cover with paint and done. |

Got a welder?
Can you cut a straight line? Do you know how a hinge works? Steel>That I know people aren't as skilled as others, or have the time/money to sit and do this, but even asking a weld shop to make one seems like a better investment. I know I could make something similar our of steel for about the same price. And with a lock. What is marketed these days really brings out the laziness of people sometimes. The only thing nice about the plastic is the weight. And if you did have a fire, you will have a bunch of ABS dipped guns, if they make it at all. |

Close at hand, virtually invisible behind the hanging closes, and same from the kids. I moved and didn't rip it out of the wall, wish I did. I have a big gun safe now but I was thinking about another one of these for the bedroom. |
