I would wait there are several iPhone like phones about to hit the market in the next few months with pretty much the same features, better keyboard options, cheaper, and on better networks.

I bought one the day it came out. As with almost all things Apple, the UI will kick the shit out of almost anything else out there. That said, it doesn't do many things that most other high end phones don't, and at least for the moment it does lack a few things that others do. Mainly third party applications, however Apple has finally announced that an SDK will be released in February. People have already been making apps, but you have to hack the phone to install them. After February, depending on how Apple handles things, it should be a much better setup.

In the meantime, there are only a few major points. 1) Battery is not removable and phone must be returned to Apple for repairs. 2) no 3G data, maybe the next version will have it. It makes the internet a little slow, but not unusable. 3) no java or flash(a blessing in disguise?), and limited audio/video format support. Pretty much just the stuff that is supported by Quicktime without any plugins.

I love my iPhone, but it's not for everyone. At least the price is a little lower now...
