Am I the only one that has this problem:
I plug my iPhone into an outlet using the USB cord and the A/C adapter and it doesn't do anything.
Actually I sometimes have the same problem when I plug it into my laptop too. It's pretty hit or miss.
I thought I read somewhere that this is a somewhat common issue.
I'm using the USB cords that came with my iPhone and iPod.

Is there a way to fix this?

Could be a bad cable.  You could get a cheap one off of Monoprice.com.

Had the same problem with mine.  Cable was bad.  I'm using the one from my first gen iPhone.

I've used two different cables, but with the same problem. It could be the A/C adapter but I have the same problem when I plug it into my PC.

CVS sells a wall charger for $10 that works

I save the USB cords that came with the iPhone for syncing only.

Charging gets done with the cheapo ones from monoprice.

ETA: if the problem persists with multiple cables, try hitting the cord port with some compressed air. I know mine gets gunked up from sitting in my pocket all the time (I don't use a case).

Also, if you're using a laptop, you may not be getting enough juice to charge. Problem even for desktop PCs. The front USB ports aren't really powered. My 40gb iPod won't sync when the cord is plugged into the front of my PC, but will when I plug it in to the rear USB ports.

Take a close look at the connectors on the phone. Even a little piece of lint or debris can get caught in the contacts and prevent a good connection.
I had the same problem, and on close inspection found a tiny wood shaving in there after an afternoon of using a chain saw.

Some early ipod cables do not charge an iphone properly, but the iphone cables work great with ipods.

I ran into the same issue trying to use ipod chargers and cables with my iphone.

Since you just got your phone, it's under warranty.  Take it to the nearest AT&T store, show them the problem, and they'll replace whichever part is defective.

Never had this problem, but from the looks of the other replies it is the cord.  Buy a new one.  Do eeeettt.

Well?  Did you take it back to the store?  They replaced my charging cable a few months after I got my phone and were apologetic.

No I haven't. I'm not sure it's the cord.... works fine in the car charger.
