Got ahold of a 16gb 3GS for cheap. It has a broken screen, looks like both the glass and LCD need replacing. Anyone have experience replacing them, or can you recommend a good place to get it done for a decent price? I'll probably sell it when it's fixed.

this is the sort of research you should do BEFORE purchasing something

I took mine to a "I fix all phones, all kinds, all problems" idiot and got a non-apple aftermarket screen. You can see little cross hairs or marks in a pattern on it, and it made the phone shut down if you twisted the phone in your pocket or grabbed it wrong. Get a real apple product.

Nah, got it cheap enough that I didn't need to worry about that.

What about just a glass replacement? I inherited an iPod Tough with cracked glass. What's the cost on that?

I tried replacing the glass in my 3G.  It's difficult.

Got it all put back together and it wouldn't work.  Went and bought me a 4G the same day.

I think you could do it yourself. Take the two little screws by the speaker out, then get a suction cup and pull the screen out. I think there are a couple things to unplug then. Plug the new screen up, press the screen into the phone, and put your screws back. I saw a guy at work replace his.

Look for broken glass repair iphone on you tube. There's a bunch of ways to do it, and a lot of places offer kits. It doesn't look to difficult since you can buy different assemblies to plug right in.

I think it is around $100 for a replacement.

I'll have to give it a shot. I just successfully tore my BB Tour completely down to clean the lint out of the trackball mechanism, and it feels like a whole new machine. Took it farther than I needed to, but got everything back together, and it's working...
