pwn3d NJ teen unlocks iPhone from AT&T network NEW YORK - Armed with a soldering iron and a large supply of energy drinks, a slight, curly haired teenager has developed a way to make the iPhone, arguably the gadget of the year, available to a much wider audience. here's his blog: iphonejtag.blogspot.com/ |
From all the people i've ever talked to who were Apple fanatics, they believe that every Apple product is perfect and therefore cannot be tempered with. |
they are working a version for Verizon .. edit : will not be from apple .. |
In a video post, Hotz demonstrated an iPhone running on T-Mobile's network, the only major U.S. carrier apart from AT&T that is compatible with the iPhone's cellular technology. |
I love hearing them .. if their product cant do it.. they respond with " i didnt need/ i dont do that anyway .. " its funny .. |
Apple COMPUTERS, mostly. I'm sure that any Mac running OS/X can be hacked just like any Linux/Unix box. What most people mean, is that Macs don't really have the HUGE library of virus/spyware/malware software that computers running Microsoft's OSs have. And it's 100% truth. At least, that's been my experience. The people you've been talking to are misinformed. |
If apple was the most popular computer on market and everyone was using them, you would see the inverse. Apple computer would be virus/spyware/malware ridden like PCs are today and everyone would be talking about how PCs are so much better because they don't have those issues. Whatever the most popular thing is will be the thing that gets targeted the most.
No argument here |
Much harder to take control of a Unix box than pre-Vista Windows. On the Mac, a user does NOT run as ROOT, Pre-Vista Windows the default user settings are set at Administrator/Root level privileges thus making it easy for a worm/virus/hacker to take full control of a machine. It also appears that on the horizon, OS X is going to be getting some much better features from Sun's Solaris platform. As of this moment, I know of ZFS and DTRACE being added, it would be nice to see them add Solaris' Containers and Zones, those features making nearly impossible to take a system over by exploiting something like SSH, since in the Container or Zone the SSH daemon will be running a virtual environment. |
Not to mention anything can be hacked when you crack open the case and use a soldering iron. |
I thought that too, until I went to the store and played with one. Wow, I am deeply impressed. This is from an Apple Hater from way back. It really is an amazing piece of kit. Still didn't buy one, but I might someday. |
It doesn't necessarily need to be "hacked". Some manufacturers may sell them as "unlocked" phones. I have an unlocked motorola, and there's nothing unusual about it. Same functions, same software, but you can put in any GSM-based SIM card, and it will work on that particular network. |
Yep, pretty much when you have physical control of a device, it is a matter of time before it is yours. |
hell, I would be happy and congratulate my son, I would show pride in his accomplishments, especially after he bought me a boat |
Then you should pay full price for the phone. ![]() Locked phones are locked because you are getting the phone for well under cost. The service providers makes the money back in your service plan. |
with all other phones you would be correct .. this phone was sold ONLY in conjunction with a 2 yr agreement .. thats actually why this hack is news.. EVEN as an ATT cust you cant use your new phone untill you agree to add two yrs to your contract,, this is not like all other gsm phones that you swap cards and go.. even if you have a vaild ATT sim it will NOT work in the ATT iPhone untill you agree to add two yrs to your contract,,, ' |
