I live in Texas and have St Augustine as my lawn grass. Trying to get rid of it and laying down something more resiliant to heat and drought. Any ideas?
I know that I'm going to have to till and turnover the old lawn. |

I know that I'm going to have to till and turnover the old lawn. Here in South Florda, St. Augustine grass is the only thing on lawns that will survive the heat and drought. Some folks have used Bermuda grass with mixed results. It requires much more work to maintain where the St. Augustine grows like a weed. It'll even grow out over pavement. When we visit family and friends up North we always enjoy being around "real grass".
Good luck, I'm not sure you have many choices. |

It also goes dormant in winter. |

Quoted: I wish my grass was more resistant to heat here in NC. All the lawns around here are fescue, that shit sucks ass in the summer, the humidity and sunlight are murderous on it. Too cheap to rip it all out and start over tho. NC is f*cked when it comes to grass. Fescue grows well in fall thru spring but dies in the summer. Bermuda thrives in the summer but goes dormant in the colder months. Only grass that thrives is crabgrass |

Sucks bc no matter how much you water it, the heat will just dry up whatever the sand doesn't let fall below it. |

St. Augustine and Bermuda grass are the two most popular around DFW. I have only had Bermuda and it is pretty tough. Called a grass but it is really a vine and can be invasive. I use the Scotts brand products and simply follow their recommendations from their website. I did the Crabgrass preventor a month ago and just applied Turf Builder with Wee control. I alos follow a regimented watering method to get the roots deep into the soil. Keeping mowed (twice a week) and well watered it makes it through the heat just fine. |
