I'd guess around 800 to 1000 rounds? I was a 240 gunner, in Iraq though. And me and my tag along would usually split he load.

if you have to hump it

the gunner carry's 500

the A Gunner 1000

and another grand or so with the rest of the team.

thanks.  always wondered.  are the rounds, not in the weapon, carried in ammo cans?

Not unless they're in the back of a vehicle.

The rounds are in bandoleers, you either put them in your ruck that way or you just put the belts in your ruck.

The gunner loads the weapon with a contact belt and it's up to his AG to get him reloaded upon contact (and to start linking belts).

Depends on situation. I rarely would carry more than 300 rounds as an M60 gunner. 100 rounds of belted 7.62 is pretty heavy. I believe 100 rounds is about 5lbs. With just M60, 300 rounds, water, and you are already over 40lbs. Most of the ammo is distributed around the platoon.
