| I need to replace my modem.. Do I have to get a modem that is compatible with verizon wireless, or can I get any old modem... |
| The unit they sent me when I signed up was westell 327 versalink POS... It has been the shittiest modem/router ever since day 1..We have had crappy wireless connectivity, and when used the ethernet sucks as well... WE need something better than a westell.....There are 5 units sharing the connection: 2 xbox 360s this PC, a laptop, and my IPod,,, I need something that will have a strong enough signal to connect all of these. |

Most companies have a compatibility list. Check the Verizon website. Not sure but you may have to call Verizon to register the new hardware with them. +1 There's probably plenty of dsl routers you can use, but the problem might be with support. They may only support the router they gave you, or might have a small list of routers you can buy. Start with calling them first. Unless you are somewhat tech savy, setting up a new router from scratch with no support might be a handful. |

I do not want or need a router I need a new wireless modem, Because the modem/router they sent me is garbage..
Another question: is it possible to have two modems for 1 house.. I ask because it seems when ever this pc is on it hogs the bandwidth big time.. Others in the house find it to be a PITA to use their devices (netflix or their Xbox 360) when my pc is on... |

You will probably only be allowed to use a single modem at a time, so no, a 2nd won't help. Call VZ to be sure. 2. If you're running any kind of p2p crap on your PC, kill it. Torrent software and other P2P things are hell on bandwidth, and the sheer packet volume can cause degraded performance or failure of consumer grade network equipment like $50 router/NAT devices. Chances are you can use any modem you want. Check online for one that is compatible with the system. Your ISP is going to want the serial number, WLAN MAC, or something along those lines to associate the modem with your account. |

what a noob, they should be shot...lol.. Sorry, that was my bad, Seconds after posting that "noobage" I wanted to kick myself.. My ISP only offers crap equipment Are these your "crappy" choices? #VersaLink 7500 #Actiontec GT704WGB #Actiontec GT704WG #VersaLink 327W #Verizon One #Linksys BEFW11S4 I've had decent luck with Linksys equipment, in the past. Sadly, the W11S4 only goes to .g speeds. What say, arfcom? Which device is the cleanest <censored> of the bunch? |

I got mixed up early on, I thought you were getting wireless internet from VZ, but I see from that list, it's just normal ADSL. You can get any ADSL modem you freakin want just about, it doesn't have to be on their list.
Your problem is you're trying to buy one with built-in wifi for your house. The solution is for you to buy the non-wireless ADSL modem, and plug it in to the wireless router of your choice. |

They sent me a westell versalink 327w modem and router combo, it blows monkey nutz, I wanna improve my connection speed not hook more crap to this POS... From my understaing even if I hook a high end, top o the line modem to it, my connection will still suck because the router has a low range of operation... Please feel free to correct me, I am new to this wireless mumbo jumbo and need all you techies to help me out here... |
