In 1994, maybe '95, I got a SOG Paratool.  Carried almost every day since. Been to 6 continents, a few deployments, and the back yard. It's never let me down.

I have a Gerber something or other that is nice, but weighs twice as much, and doesn't do any more.

What's your favorite multi tool and why ?

I was issued Gerbers, Leathermans, and SOGs.  Since getting out I've bought only SOGs.

I just found a Leatherman Rebar.  Sending it to Leatherman for free repair (broken file).  Seems alright.  I have a big old SOG that I still haven't managed to lose.  SOG has sent parts for free once before.

This, own 2.  One on my work pants, one on my work shorts.  The oldest one quit retaining the screwdriver bit, sent it in, they sent me a brand new one, free.  Used to be able to exchange then at Cabelas but they quit doing that.

I bought it on boot leave and used it almost daily when I got to the fleet as a armorer.  I don't need anything that big now so it lives in my range bag though.

Same here.  Years ago I ran over something with my motorcycle.  I stopped to check the bike and looked back and saw something shiny in the road.  Bike was fine and "new" Leatherman was mine.

Last Christmas, my pop got me a custom Leatherman Charge TTi from Texas Tool Crafters

It looks very similar to this, except the saw file was replaced with sizors and the main blade is s35vn. The plier wire cutters are also the newer type with the removable teeth.

I do not know what he paid for it and I would have never paid what the company asks for their stuff. That is until I used his gift for EDC... I have never had to sharpen the blade. ONCE. And I never would have thought a Leatherman could be worth north of $200, but I do now.

Edit... I could not get the eBay pic to load, so I took my own.

I'm actually a huge fan of the sog paratool also. it carries well and feels good in hand.  the gerber 800 legend is also one of my favorites because I prefer a spring loaded pliers

leathermans are also good but they tend to be a little thicker and the better ones lack spring loaded pliers

Leatherman
Bought the original in Hong Kong in1994
Snapped the blade in a moment of madness a couple of years ago an d they said that model was discontinued, so they replaced it with a newer  version FOC

I've tried them all, prefer Leatherman.

Gerber was a POS and their CS was horrible.

SOG was...meh.  No real complaints, just liked the fit/function of Leatherman better.

Victorinox, steel was too soft for repeated use.

Leatherman was just right.

SOG Paratool, though they stopped making the nice blades in ~97 (now comes with a silly combo can-opener/small flat head driver) and stopped selling the correct (horizontal) belt pouch sometime in the 2000s.

The vertical pouch with the plastic clip essentially eliminated all the advantages of the tool's small form factor.

I actually called SOG when they nerfed the blades and haven't bothered to call about the pouch.  IMO they're idiots to fuck with a good thing.

I've had my original Leatherman since 1991. Cut lots of cheese charges, stripped commo wire,  broke the tip,  can't remember how,  used it yesterday to put batteries in my son's Death Star night light.

I have used a SOG powerlock for 10 years as a field engineer.  It's never let me down, and I've added the wire stripper and V-cutter attachments and removed the blade after some of my customers prohibited personal knives on their property.

I have 6 or 7 of these tools and have used others over the last 15 years.  My favorite is the Bear & Sons "Bear Jaws" #155L.  Fit and finish is very good, the orientation of the tools is towards the inside  of the handle in use, it has the tools I use and it is less than $50.   The Swiss Tool is next (it is bigger and heavier, but it is a great tool) and different Leatherman tools are 3rd.   The SOGs, Gerbers and Schrades just didn't make the grade for me.

I never understood this logic. Why rob oneself of the convenience and luxury of a product because of the owners political beliefs.

Did you leave the country for the last 8 years? Because if you've been here and paying taxes, you're throwing money at the Democrats.

THIS.  I got one as a Christmas present 13 years ago and I think it is by far, the best and most useful present I have ever gotten.  I use it every day.  I have gone through 5 sheaths a dozen flashlights (clipped to one side of sheath) and even 4 space pens (clipped to the other side)  but the Wave still works...

For my part, I have a different view on this.  If there is a product that I want and like but radically disagree with the owners political viewpoint, I buy used.  This not only gets me the product I want, it deprives the owners of a new sale.  If I ever decide I want another multi-tool, (or 5) my local pawn shops still go to the airport auctions so there is always a cheap source for knives/multitools.  I don't even consider it theft anymore, because after this long of TSA stealing everyone's shit, anyone bringing a knife to an airport just didn't want it anymore.

I gave my office staff Leatherman Waves for Xmas one year. Most office people don't have the simplest tools at their desks so this really helps when tools are needed for tightening screws or fixing things
