long story short: what can you do if a bank ignores you, loose your money basically in short ripping you off in the process.

Details
My fiance and I opened an account at xxxxx bank. It was our joint account and was set up for joint expenses as well as savings. We opened the account last month and wanted to deposit our piggy bank savings of xxx dollars into the savings. Most of it was change but also had xx dollars in cash. It was uncounted( we planed on utilizing the banks change machine) they inform us that the branch does not have a change counter and that they would send it to the vault to be counted. They asked us to estimate how much I said xxx dollars, the assistant manger decided to put xx dollars in our account instead( at this point I was weary and want to count it ourselves, but the Fiance reassured me that it would be ok). Assistant manager assured us that the bank would ajust the amount up as soon as it was counted. She also explained this was going to take 2 weeks( since it was going into the savings it wasn't an issue with us). Two weeks roll by no adjustment, this was followed by a phone call, they said it might take an extra week. I allow the week. i call back talk to teller who said they would find out what was going on and give me a call back... next day no call, I call, talk to the assistant manger who said she would make sure someone will call me the next day..two days roll by. I called the corporation and put in a formal complaint. waited a week, to hear back( they said three days) I called back to the bank to once again try to communicate. After 30 mins on the phone, they tell me that the money was disburse without being counted. Inside was note that xx dollars was inside. What Can I do about this?

The Assistant Manager has a boss:  the Manager.

The Manager has a boss too.

Work your way up the food chain until you get satisfaction.  If it takes a polite, well-written letter to the CEO, that's what you should do.

(I was in retail banking for more than 8 years.)

You're probably screwed... I'd try calling Clark Howard though. He'd probably get you some help.

Forgive me for saying so, but all you had to do was ask for some paper change rollers & they would have given them to you for FREE. Then all you had to do was spend a few minutes each night counting them & rolling them correctly. THEN the bank would have taken them & credited your account for the correct & proper amount.

Instead, you depended on a bank to do your manual work & now you're pissed because they're about as competent as you were lazy. (No offense!)

I'd call it a draw.

Find out what branch has the coin counter, and call there asking to speak to the manager of the vault.

They will have record of running the coin through the machine, ask to see that.

If your coin never made it there, you might have a theft situation or they just were lazy and didn't send it to the main vault.

I ran coin at a bank for a while, and I've never heard of them depositing an estimated amount in your account.

you have not been to a bank latey, they do not want the coins in the rollers, it makes it a hassel with change machine.

money has been dispersed without being counted.

+1

Now you know why a lot of people keep their money buried in a mason jar in their garden.  Never trust a bank.

agreed, but I was talked into it by the Fiance. So now I'm in this situation. I have it figured that I'm screwed, but I don't know alot about the banking industry.

Yes, somewhere a general ledger is out of balance by the exact amount of whatever the amount of coins was.  It's probably such a small amount that it isn't considered a high priority.

That's why a letter to the CEO would get the job done fast.

Odd, I turned in a bunch of change using this very method not 6 months ago, about $30-35 worth of mixed coinage.

Were you there or was all this done by the Fiance...?

Somewhere, somehow somebody either counted your change or took it home with them.  Banks just don't have jars setting around with scraps of paper in them telling how much they think is in them.

As I said before, call the vault manager.  He should be able to tell you if your coin made it to the vault.

Good plan two weeks ago. I applaud you for finaly calling the BBB. Don't trust banks, just ask any grandparent that lived through the 1930s.

You've just learned a valuable lesson the easy way.

"Trust in God, everyone else doesn't get your money without counting it in your presence and giving a signed and dated receipt".

Some have lost thousands before learning that simple lesson.

I have, I also think the bank should be held accountable for their actions. It is a professional institution that should be trustworthy. In the end it was a bad judgment call, we all do them. I just want the bank to understand that this is unacceptable practices, and protect those in the future that are foolish enough to participate in bad business( if this clerk did in fact pocket the money, which by any way you look at it is stealing)..
