im working on some in vehicle maps for my fire district..   mapquest and yahoo maps arent really cutting it for what i need..   i need to be able to slect a certain block of an area on a map ..  make that the size of a standard sheet of paper and have whats inside detailed

i cant find any decent online sources of maps that give me some leeway of what i want printed out

if i have to add streets and names in Paint and then print it thats fine..   but i either get too little of the district or too much of the area..  cant get it in the middle

I use maps a lot for work

No on-line map, in my experience, provides what I would consider to be good print outs.

I would go buy a copy of Streets & Trips. You can print edge to edge in landscape with it. Money well-spent

I meant this:

http://www.microsoft.com/Streets/en-us/default.aspx

Looks like they have a free trial. You might be able to do everything you need with the trial.

Used to be called Live Search Maps but now it's called Bing.

No idea why.

But it has an bird's eye view that's really awesome. Puts you about 300' up in a helicopter view vs. satellite.

GIS software like ArcView will do the job.

Not unless he has the raw data to start with.....

GISDATADEPOT might be able to help - but, really, I'd go with google earth if possible, or as mentioned already, streets&trips is pretty good for the money.

Googleak will allow you to DL the tiles and then just stitch them together in your app of choice.

I used to have a program that downloaded maps directly off the terrra server...cant remember what it was since now I just use the garmin products.

Save as image files (jpeg) and use phot joining program to stitch them into a large detailed map.
