So here is the sceanrio. Your a Somali pirate... you jacked a ship with russian weapons including a bunch of T-72's. Now obviously the Somali .gov is no threat but now you have a US destroyer following you and a Russian Frigate on the way... The USA has ROE's for these types of things i am sure but do the Russians? So what do you do? Bail before the russians get there? or Sit it out and negotiate with the Russians? We all know how well that goes... or say Fuck the Spetsnaz and take your chances?  Also if you bail do you think the destoyer will try and round you up? and do you think you can outrun a destoyer? |
I would advise him to give up ASAP! |
Unless your planning on shooting thru the hull i dont think it matters...:-) and there need to be more ARRRR in your voice like a pirate..

They have welding equipment on the ship to cut a hole in the side of the hold if they need to. They're asking for $20M to return the ship and the tanks. Pirates are always after only one thing: cash. They're in a bad situation now with very few assets and they're trying desperately to get out of it. You want this resolved before Russia gets on scene and you want to be able to do it with your life in tact. Surrender may be the best option. |
| If the pirates were truly smart they would have bailed shortly after finding out what was on that ship...someone is going to want their 30 tanks back...generally the type of people that you don't want to screw around with. Asking for a $20M ransom was not a good idea. Predictions: They will not pass go, they will not collect $20M. They will either run away or be killed/captured by the Russians. |
I would love to see some pirate take a shot at a US Destroyer or a Russian Frigate just so i could imagine the responce.... Granted the Tanks and ship are worth more than 20 mil but i agree this is going to end bad for the pirates. Could you imagine our responce if pirates jacked a load of AH64's heading to South Korea? |

Surrendering to the US is the best option if you want to live. Bailing into shark infested water sounds like a good way to die. The Russians would capture you and you would "dissappear". Negotiating with Russia never works, they even gassed hostages so that the terrorists couldn't get away. Certain death. Fighting Spetsnaz isn't the worst option, but since I would be a Somali pirate, I don't think my comrades would be the best people to fight spec ops troops with. Most likely end up dead, but not a bad option. Probobly would fight, better than spending the rest of my life in GITMO. |

This is a lose-lose-lose terribly situation. If they surrender to the Americans, we'd likely transfer them over to the Russians anyway, showing our "good faith" between our countries, and because it really is their business. If they surrender to the Russians, they "disappear" or it's made to look like they didn't surrender, and the Russians had to kill them all to defend themselves. If they fight either the US or Russia, they're going to lose spectacularly. (This is the option I would want to see on TV.) If they try to get away, they won't make it very far in their boats. |

Old story not sure if its true, but I would believe it. Back in the day when taking hostages was starting a group took soome USSR people. Next day "Russian" kicked in a door in that town drug them all into the street and shot all but one after asking where are our people. This group actually did not have them but they told the last one find the group or tommorrow we find you and kill you then go to another door. The hostages where freed. |

I'm sure the Russians will be VERY Kind & Understanding. After explaining the error of their naughty pirate ways to the somalians, I'm sure the Russians will let them go free. (assuming those Pirates can swim through the heavily shark infested waters the many miles back to shore! )I mean, it avoids the long legal delays and issues of an American Court, it is environmentally friendly (no mess to clean up!) and a very valuable lesson is learned by all parties! BIGGER_HAMMER

Compartmented construction FTW. Generally, RO-RO commercial vessels don't have it. Just saying.  I sincerely hope the rest of the crew (they killed one already) makes it out safely. |
