Brand new power washer w/ Honda pull-start engine. I can not get this thing started for the life of me. Gas is coming out of the muffler when I try and pull start it.

Yes, I put oil in it.

Its flooded.

Pull the plug and clear the excess gas from the cylinder (I'd use compressed air, or just pull the thing through.)

Dry off the plug, reinstall and start.

Could be your float valve is stuck open, if the flooding persists pull the float bowl and verify proper operation of the valve.

Dumb question - how do I clear the excess gas from the cylinder? Blow compressed air into where the spark plug goes?

Easiest way is to remove the sparg plug, pull the rope a few times then let it sit for a while

As mnd mentioned, it's flooded.

However, there may be a simpler explanation for WHY it's flooded: You didn't accidentally leave the choke engaged, did you? (And yes, I've done the same thing! ) If so, disengage the choke and yank the starter rope until the excess gas clears out of the cylinder. Eventually, it'll fire up.

Carb float stuck, dirt, debris, bad luck...  Remove plug, clear cylinder.. tapping on carb bowl or "dropping" the unit gently may free the float.  Float may be stuck due to fuel evap. in bowl area. Can cause gummy gell type deposits, sometimes "varnish" like. Probably the problem.  Remove bowl clean replace. Install fuel filter, fuel shutoff, for next time.  shut off fuel, always Run Dry before storage...

Just reread post,,, says new unit.. try the bouncing/ tapping deal to free the Float.  A fuel shutoff is still a good idea!

Clear the cyl. as posted and tap bowl with hammer a few time to make sure float is free.  Also, since you state this is new, I assume it didn't sit over winter and is brand new?  The flywheel key could be missing or broken putting your timeimig off.  Oh yeah, you did check the plug and plug wire and made sure you are getting a spark, correct?
