[ARCHIVED THREAD] - ps3 update issue

Tried to connect to PSN today, had to do a system update. The PS3 restarts and gets to a black screen where I have to consent to the warning they're removing support for "other OS".

I have to click X to accept or O to cancel. The only buttons on the controller that works is O, but I can't hit x to answer yes, really cancel. Called PS support, tried a reset, no joy. Anyone have any ideas before I drop $150 for service?

power cleared for the 50th time and got the directional buttons to work, was able to complete the install and seems to be ok now.

What's this about using another OS on the PS3?

I read something about a guy running something else on it. What are the advantages? I'm curious, as it might be something I want to look into if there's something to gain from it.

Think you can run linux and such on the ps3. With the new update, the capability is removed.

not true as geohot released a proxy that will allow for 3.15FW and still be able to go online.

As for what it can do, basically if you have to ask, it's not for you.

If you are really curious about what you can do with it, take a look at this link. They linked 8 PS3s together to make a super computer for research. It was cheaper than building a traditional super computer.

It is really a pretty cool feature.

Sounds like it. I was just curious. I'm 1/4 retarded as it is.
