scored a 92.6 on the dept issued G23 and scored a 94.6 on my private purchase G27. I was surprised that i did better on the G27, it was only the second time that i have ever shot it and was surprisingly comfortable to shoot

My issue G23 is worn out and old as hell, it is a gen 2 model. I wish they would let me purchase my own G23 but that is a negative

course of fire was just the basic post course, no nightfire

All of our shooters that also have a subcompact 26/27 tend to shoot better scores than their 19/23/17/22 duty guns. Go figure

Back where I used to work in MS, we had seperate courses of fire––60 round to 25 yards (B-27 targets) with duty handguns, and 15 round to 7 yards for off duty and backup handguns.  One day I went in to qualify with an off duty weapon (S&W 640-1,) and was told that the course had changed, and that now all handguns had to be shot in the full 60 round 25 yard course.  I whined and griped at the range officer, and said that there was no way I could qualify with my little snubnose in that course, and he told me to stop being an idiot, shoot the course, and to pay attention to my fundamentals and concentrate while shooting.  I did as he instructed, and shot a perfect 300.  Never shot that well on the qual course with my duty weapon, I should add.

I suspect that many folks find themselves worrying about qualifying with smaller weapons and pay more attention to the basics and take more care shooting them than they do with full size handguns, causing better scores (because they are concentrating, and because the accuracy potential of a G26, say, versus a G17, is pretty negligible at the distances they are shot for these course.)

Just my thought on the matter.

I'm issued a G23 and also qual on a personal G27. My scores are always higher on the G27. I should be used to it by now but it always surprises me anyway.

I absolutely guarantee that you are 100% correct.

I would be very interested to know if ... when using the 26/27 to qualify ... are these shooters utilizing the 10-round magazines ?
OR full-size ?  Or an extension of some kind ?

FWIW ... I'm agreeing strongly with the posts mentioning the boost people get when they are "forced" (for some reason) to really concentrate.
I'm just curious about the mag use.

Stay safe

I have a Glock 26 that shoots with the best of my pistols.  I use the smaller 26 mags when I qualify but when I carry concealed I keep a standard mag in the pistol and a 17 mag in the Maxpedition.  I would agree with the other post that people concentrate harder on their sight picture with the smaller pistols.
