So are they actually planning on launching this thing today?

It seems as though they are pushing this launch awfully hard.
With talk of cracks and falling foam insulation, why not repair the damn thing correctly?

So they decided to launch even though the crack is still there?

The problem with the foam is not on the way up, but the way down.

The foam may cause the damage on the way up, but any damage won't effect the Shuttle until re-entry.

My guess is that the crack was in a spot where, if a chunk had broke off, it wouldn't have hit the shuttle.

Ask yourself this:  Who is doing all the talking about cracks and foam?  The media - they want ratings.  Nasa has been saying (until they are blue in the face) that the crack is irrelevant.  On one hand, you are correct - on the other hand, things that fly ALWAYS have one or two little things wrong with them - some are important, some are not.

I would shit all over myself in that thing but with a big smile on my face. What a ride, Not a big God person myself but had to say a little prayer for them.

Joesp Gobel would be proud if he was alive today, remember "tell a lie often enough and it will become truth."

you may be correct.  Or I might.
I see your point though.
No doubt the media wishes bad things to happen all the time.

you are a lucky bastard! I've only seen one launch and it was awesome.

Space camp in AL kicked serious butt as well.  I can't wait to go back for the adult class sometime.
