when you guys get a new ar rifle,do you separate the upper and bore sight to your sights/optics before trying to get it on paper?i used to never do this, however i was retarded..lol...ive been using 25 yds and primarily focus on the windage only.

Yep.
I set up a bore sight picture at 100 yards and adjust my optics to the bore sight.
I'm usually always on paper (small paper) at 100 yards first shot.

That's how I do it, then the 'one shot zero' method.http://www.larrywillis.com/tip003A.html

No, but I should. I just start close and move.....

So far, all of my rifles have been successfully sighted in from mechanical zero. Had a faulty scope once, and looking through the bore helped identify the issue.

Shoot at dirt 100 yards away. Adjust to impact. Paper. Adjust to zero

I look through the bore, if possible. Usually within a few inches at 100 yards.

There's a paper plate stapled to a fence post about 70 yards outside my sliding glass door for exactly that purpose. There's also a piece of pink paracord hanging from a branch with a weight on the end that I use for scope leveling. I'd prefer to get what I can out of the way at home.
