Smart wool is okay, I've got several pairs.

There are other options available that cost less....

Just about any winter weight socks will work.

Smart wool, that is just a cool name for marino wool, right? I have those in hunting socks and love them. the get fuzz ball on them in the dryer though.

check backcountry's outlet store, sometimes you can grab some deals there

Gander Mtn had 'em for $10/pr on Thanksgiving..I went and bought a few pairs

Personally I like the Thorlo Hikers in wool/thorlon blend a bit better, but Smartwools are very nice hiking socks too.

I've got 3 pairs of Smartwool socks. I mostly wear them when hunting or going on a long hike. I like them a lot.
