I've finalized an adoption and going to be taking home a short legged hound mix on Thursday. Poor guy has been in two supposedly forever home and bounced back to the foster. I'm not going to give up on this guy, but it might be rough for a few days, or more, due to how much he has bounced. I am aware of the 3 days 3 weeks 3 months, but that's pretty vague. I've met him twice and did a nice long walk so I'm not going to be a total stranger. I've asked the foster to feed him less on pickup day so I can bring him right in and feed hm to give him a positive first experience. But it's going to be rough. And he's going to be upset leaving the foster mom. rough for her leaving him too. For the best, but rough. |

'Bounced' because of why??? My last 'rescue' dog was a nightmare from hell. If you were my worst enemy - I would still not 'wish' that piece of shit dog upon you sort of dog...  Imagine a dog destroying multiple crates on multiple occasions and them following it up by doing similar to the inside of your home. Each and every time they destroyed said crate...  So then you banish said dog to the outside and... In a single day your back yard looks like the surface of the moon.  |

First one they called up the rescue and said they had to give up the pup because they were moving. Second one they had small kids, like 3 and 5, and no structure. Kids would get the dog riled and and then run. Dog would chase and nip at their heels or knock them down. No kids here, so that's not going to be a problem. |

Well, he's been with me slightly over a week. Cute little guy, always happy. always nose to the ground this one - definitely hound strongly suspect beagle x some sort of treeing feist. He moped around for 2 days - didn't play with any of the toys he had at his old home didn't eat much, so we just went on a lot of long walks. Couple days later he was wanting me to chase him, was playing with toys, etc. Training is going okay but slow. Labs, collies, etc they are either smart or they want to please or both. I knew scenthounds would be different - but actually dealing with it, yea it's slower. |

Me and the dog are getting on great. He's REAL nose driven which can impact his listening, but I knew that going in - it's a trait of hounds don't get a hound if you aren't willing to deal with this. He loves sleeping on the recliner, wrestling, playing chase, and of course eating all the goose poop he can find! |

Sounds like a good dog. Me? I adopted two four years ago. Chihuahua and a rat terrier. The chihuahua is a cuttle bug. The rattie has a big dog complex. Thinks he can take on anything from a 1000 pound bull to a house fly. The bull thing lasted only seconds until the bull wanted to play. Today it was an eight point buck who came up to the yard when he was outside. Buck sniffed then went back to chasing a hot doe around the house. Dam deer would not stop so I could get a good shot without damaging things i don’t want broken. |
