I'm looking for a GOOD remote control that if it doesn't come pre-programed to control everything I want, It can learn.

I've got several remotes I want to get condensed into one:

tv
vcr
dvd
tape deck
cd player
stereo receiver deck

I've had several of the 'all in one' types, but they fail to do it all.

so, if anyone has any recomendations for a decent universal remote, hook a brother up!

There is a website of ubergeeks that deals with those .  I'll see if I have it anywhere.  IIRC, there is a Radio Shack one that is the daddy and costs a lot less than the name brand ones.

There was just a thread about this. It is a really nice remote, but I cannot remember the name. You programmed it with your PC! I had the name written down but I lost the paper.

Search for a few weeks ago.

Red if you want the primo stuff, you want the Sony Remote.  We are talking 150 clams.  But it is the size of a larger paperback.  Has a huge touch screen and you can control 12 components.  They have an upgrade for 18 components.

Looks like they are going to for less then $90 on Amazon and eBay.

This the mother of all custom hometheater remote  controls website.  Found in high end custom applications, it will operate virtually all of your entertainment appliances.  Properly programmed (by download or manually), it will turn on all your euipment and set different pieces to the correct settings with one push of a button.  On screen display is programmable to identify each button as you desire.  This is definately not your average remote.  expect to pay several hundred$$ and it is worth it!

I can highly recommend the Sony RM-VL900 I have has it for years it will operate up to 8 pieces of equipment has learning capability and can be found for under $50.

It is not the flashiest remote but because the buttons can be learned from the originals remote it will control anything. I have tried many remotes including much more expensive remotes and this one does everything you need at a reasonable price. I just don’t see spending as much on a remote as on a good .22 rifle.

Link to a review and site that specializes in remotes:

I have a Philips Pronto. It is the cats ass of programmable remotes. It has an LCD touchscreen that can be completely customized. You can program it with macros so that one touch performs mutliple functions. You can use custom graphics as buttons, so a picture of the HBO logo takes me to HBO. The only downside is that it is a son of a bitch to program.

ETA: The other downside is price. The model with a grayscale LCD will be around $300, and a full color LCD $600. I have a grayscale. Personally, I wouldn't spend that much on a remote control, but Philips was fucking around on a warranty repair on my TV and I had them send me the remote as compensation.

Philips Pronto… 10/22
Philips Pronto… Single Six
Philips Pronto… Walther P22

Philips Pronto… lasts a couple of years and then is worth nothing vs….

I just don’t see spending that kind of money ever again on a stinking remote I learned better after the first couple of time.

You want a Lorcin, buy a Lorcin, but you won't get Les Baer performance at a Lorcin price.  No it's not an heirloom but it is upgradable as you change components and won't become obsolete.

The Pronto or the Marantz is teh only way to go. Its got programmable macros as well as RF functions. We put these into alot of peoples homes with High end home theatres. If you want a one button solution then the pronto is the way to go.

Programming it is another story. It takes me about 3-4 hours to do a large home with two home theatres and lighting.

The average firearm that was purchased 30 years ago is still worth most of (if not more than) its original price. Conversely, any TV remote that was purchased 30 years ago used ultrasonic signals, and is completely obsolete nowdays. What makes you think that the same trend won't apply in another 30 years?

Consumer electronics are a money sinkhole. Firearms are a lifetime investment.

I see you're posting from a computer.  Is it safe to assume that you own it?

The original post asked for a "GOOD" remote, in caps, not a cheap or inexpensive remote.  I suggested one of the best.

We have the ability to set our own priorities and spend accordingly.  Sorry that we don't have your approval.

Sure...But I'm not under any delusions that it will increase in value, or will never become obsolete.

Why dont you just hire someone to work your buttons for you.  Lets say you hire C-C, you tell it to turn up the volume, he-she goes over and turns up the volume.  You want the lights on, "Pat, turn on the lights".  Just make sure you invest in some duct-tape for the mouth.
