Okay I know we have alot of guys on the deep end of the tech industry...
How many of you that run ESX going to upgrade to vSphere 4? |
|
We're going to, just not sure how quickly. We'll see what others have to say before the leap.
Looks like a real easy upgrade from 3.5. We don't see anything that is a must have, but a number of nice upgrades. In fact i'll be looking into those new features tomorrow |

vmware is out of its mind... they want 18k for maint on our 4 esx hosts this year. i think vmware is the best game in town as far as virtualization goes, but my boss really likes the "free" price of hyper-v work with me here vmwareWhoa! Are you guys running plat support? |

Are you guys running plat support? i think so, plus all of the other little extras for fail over and redundancy and backup and fiber, etc that cost extra money |

That is why we are looking at non-business critical servers going on XEN Server and or ESXi. A little more admin required but the price is right. We will keep our 4 ESX 3.5 for our critical systems with v-rep. I will be rebuilding our infrastructure in the next 12 months. We are moving to Blade Server tech, and 14+TB of storage, which will leave me with a slightly older tech redundant infrastructure to play with. We currently have Windows 2003/2000, redhat, ubuntu and hpUX but will be Windows 2008 R2/Ubuntu/hpUX when done. We were looking at going to Microsoft Unified Communications, and moving away from Cisco voIP/Presence but that will probably wait until we get done with the SAP rollout. As you can imagine, I am going to have a very busy 2 years. Forgot, I am rolling Office 2007 right now and Windows 7 when it hits RTM. |
work with me here vmware
