No. Used to do that as a kid. Watermelon is so good it don't need salt. Healthier too.

Any kind of mellon can have salt. My preferred method of salt is prosciutto

Ugh, I like salty stuff, but watermelon is best plain imo.

Try cold cantaloupe and salt
6/4/2017 1:09:24 PM EDT

Salt is ok.

However, you really need to try watermelon with a little lime juice sprinkled on it instead of salt ... fantastic!

Watermelon (or just about any fruit for that matter) with chili powder or Texas Pete's (or equivalent).

I've been trying to drink more water. I fill up my water jug before work and throw in some watermelon and a lime wedge or two and ice cubes. Tastes great.

Nope. I never understood this, people that do it say it makes it sweeter. No... it just makes it salty.

Go be northern transplant somewhere else.

Salt on 'melon is like salt or sugar on a margarita. It just belongs there.

Born and raised in Florida, and salt doesn't belong on watermelon, cantaloupe, grapefruit, etc.

I know a few people that like it like that but it's always been unnatural in my eyes.

Born and raised mostly in Georgia, and my grandparents salted watermelon regularly. I got it from family.

I'll agree that it doesn't go well on grapefruit, even though I love grapefruit. Sugar is better on that glorious, tart-sweet, headache-inducing-after-brushing-teeth-orb!

North FL and south GA are neighbors, and we should be friendly.

Except I'll trade you Clay County for Charlton County and we can call it even.

Salty here.  There's no other way.  I like it on watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew.

You think that's good? Toss it on a hot grill for a minute or so then hit it with a bit of kosher salt.

Boom. Flavor headshot.

It's just a small amount of salt, not a dusting.  Are most sweet baked goods salty?  There is salt in them....

You're using too much salt.

A small amount of salt on watermelon absolutely makes it taste much better.

Say you are working hard in the summer heat.

Watermelon and salt is a great way to get some fluids, sugars, and sodium back.

Drink water with it of course
