regarding layout, would you say it is better to center of left justify the page??

this is for a small commercial site, not new or blog or online store.

I prefer centered, gives the appearance of less wasted space in the margins.

Center. Always center.  





Be sure to pick a pixel width that works for your demographic and purpose, but the only real reason (and it's not a good one) to use left-justified is if you are locked into some sort of formatting technique that requires it.  





Don't fall into the trap of thinking absolute positioning is a good idea, that only lets rigid thinking people cause the site to be rigid and completely screws up it's changeability and expandability.  If your customer is not completely ignoring the site, sooner or later they will want some small change.  Absolute positioning will increase the chance that will force a rebuild.





Center your one main container DIV (or a series of them) and learn how to make a few columns with floats.  You are better off spending the time to learn how to build the site now than to skimp and go the easy way.
