I had decided on an ar45 DI gun, 8 inch pistol.
But at around 1100 to 1200, it seems there might be other choices out there. I don't need another 1911. Don't like wheel guns. Don't care for glocks. While the thompson is neat, 20 pounds of gun doesn't seem that interesting, plus the pistol version just looks weird to me. I saw the m&p 45, CZ/eaa 45's and they are kind of interesting looking, but figured I would take some lumps in GD and see what I might be overlooking. |

CZ makes .45 pistols as does Korth that are not 1911. So does Sig Sauer and some lesser known brands.

I want a .45 PCC that's not a Thompson, USC->UMP conversion mess, or Mech-Tech style conversion ugliness.
Make me a Scorpion in .45, that'd scratch the itch. Anyway, I can give a +1 to the FNX-45, I have the Tactical and it's basically Easy Mode for handguns. CZ-97B is a classy pistol too, though large for only holding 10 rounds. |

Besides my 1911's, I'm pretty fond of my FN and my Sig P-220 carry.

SAR K2 45. 14+1 while slimmer grip than the Sig or CZ97. 97 styling with Signatures square barrel lock up. Impeccable machining, .45 Super capable. Takes P14 mags and will lock back if you buy extra followers. Mags will also take P14 extended baseplates.

I built mine for ~$600 not counting SBR stamp or accessories, but I've got most of a machine shop at home so it's like cheating http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/devtucker/AR-45/IMG_20160922_202807631.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/devtucker/AR-45/IMG_20160922_202657819.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/devtucker/AR-45/IMG_20170121_123106900.jpg View Quote you are going to have to share more on this. I am guessing since 45 is shorter you chopped up the bolt carrier to fit the buffer and spring all in the upper? |

Cz-75 variant, well made, steel frame. 14 round mags and can use common P-14 mags so no proprietary mag issues. Probably one of the best gun deals around at $370. |

hk45 and usp45 are 2 different guns. but what is the difference?
I have shot the ump before and it was fun, but not 3k-4k fun. |

S&W 3Gens are still used in some jurisdictions that didn't hear the siren song of cheap polymer in an Atlanta strip joint.
I was looking for the same thing - a decent .45, mostly because waiting for the CMP to sell 1911's was going to be a crap shoot about what old beater 1911 might be in the racks if and when my raffle entry to buy one came up. All the good ones would be auctioned at market prices. For that kind of money I could buy three import .45's from the Philippines. But, like you said, if you don't want a 1911, you have to look around more. Older guns designed when .45 was the norm are what you seek, and the S&W 3Gens are what you will find in abundance if you look. I bought a 4566 TSW for $480 shipped just last November. All stainless. It doesn't weigh as much as a full sized 1911 or a double stack .45 in polymer, either. All too many ignore total carry weight with mag. And weight isn't all bad, it shoots smooth and recoil is better than my old 1st Gen LCP. Those were nasty in comparison. Ruger, Kahr, Walther, S&W, Glock, SIG, CZ, HK, Springfield, FN, Hi Point, Beretta all make .45 guns that aren't 1911's. The real issue is how to sort them all out and what to choose. |

I had a UMP SBR.....but at 5k....too much for what it does. Sold it. Now have a JRC45 SBR. Runs great. Takes G21 mags and pretty quiet with a can on it. Much cheaper.

One of the Marlins that take 1911 magazines would be a nice choice.
|

sig is a single stack, so probably not for that price.
s&w 3rd gen are slide mounted saftey's. the Kriss is interesting, but for that price I am still going ar45. and that ar45 thread was cool. I remember seeing the first, but never saw the second. you should make that upper kit, I would buy one. the k2 looks like where it is at, if I stay with a handgun vs the ar pistol. |
